"Never conventionally beautiful"

The egalitarian eye of one of the South's preeminent photographers is the subject of William Eggleston: Democratic Camera, Photographs and Video, 1961-2008 which opened yesterday at the Whitney Museum of American Art.

He was such a hero to me when I started out... I don't shoot in that style, but he made me feel that anyone could be a photographer.

Too bad that nowadays *everyone* thinks they're a photographer...
