This is not a regular occurrence

It's 11am here in our upscale Port Hills neighborhood and we just heard a donkey bray.

For the record, my husband voted "swoon!" because he liked the picture of the donkey.

Ha! We awoke to the lovely sound of chickens almost every morning in Hawaii. It seems quaint now, although it totally pissed me off when I was trying to sleep.

Maybe one of your upscale neighbors is having a kids birthday party with "pony" rides. Or a literalist version of "pin-the-tail-on". Hopefully no one thinks he is a pinata, or we'll have to call PETA.

Robin, That thought went through my head after I posted.

I should explain that the Port Hills neighborhoods are a mixed bag. The original houses from the 1950s and 1960s are about what you'd expect, small and quaint. The area was considered too far from the city to be a proper suburb (more a series of tiny villages).

From the late 1970s onwards as the city grew and more people were commuting, the Hills with their spectacular views developed into more upscale neighborhoods.

In the past ten years, old homes have been torn down and McMansions have sprung up. Our next door neighbor bought three adjoining properties and erected one monster of a house. Ours is not so fab, just a 1970s Brady Bunch-looking beach shack we enjoy very much.

Chickens and Donkeys are a much calmer sound to awake to than junkie screams and scrag fights! (-I've had evil neighbor for the last year...kinda gets on your nerves you know!!) Our move in a couple of weeks cant come soon enough!
