Psst...blues and greens. Pass it on.

The January 2009 issue of Elle Decor is up online. Editorial features include work from heavy hitters Steven Gambrel, David Kleinberg, Jamie Drake, and Miles Redd. Um, wow.

I've been fawning over those gorgeous iridescent dining room walls since I got the issue and that blue/green color in the hallway is amazing!

I have a love/hate relationship with blue. In pictures, it's gorgeous, but when it's on my walls I just feel cold all the time. I am thinking about repainting the dining room (currently red) in pale gray and black, and reupholstering my tulip chairs in aqua velvet (not aqua velva... that would smell funny). I think that's all the blue I can handle.

But you're keeping Le Tigre, right Erin?

She's already taken le tigre down. i know, i know, i fought a good fight though. What she has up will look good when the repaint is complete.

Also, this issue of Elle Dec arrived the same day as my Jan Met home, who's cover story was "white now" or something stupid like that, it's their all white rooms issue. The 2 mags are next to each other on my kitchen table and Ell just makes met home look so sad and out dated.

Karly, I have this theory that there is a pecking order over at Hachette Filipacchi. Elle Decor gets first dibs on editorial and Met Home gets the high-end leftovers.

Margaret Russell sits like a tiny well-coiffed queen on her chair-of-the-moment throne turning up her nose at homes with Corian counters and un-pedigreed art. "Ugh, that looks like Met Home."

Kitchens & Baths, Remodeling & Makeovers, Budget Decorating, and Gardening & Deck Design squabble over the Better Homes-like projects like junkyard dogs.

Funny, Raina about the junkyard dogs. Too true.

I also have a love/hate relationship with blue. Mostly hate. The house we live in now was owned previously by a little old lady who had everything inside painted baby-ass blue. Inside ALL the kitchen cabinets, every wall inside, with blood red carpet throughout. It was beyond hideous.

When I was a kid my parents were in real estate. They always had trouble selling homes with a lot of blue inside. I think I learned to dislike blue from them. Oh, and I had a client once whose mother loved baby blue and he forbade the color anywhere near his home. May have been the perfect storm for color hate.

Anyway, I'm now adding small bits of a turquoise blue to my living room and liking it very much. The color is in the oriental rug in that room, though not in huge amounts. I even scored a green oriental runner a couple of years ago that also has small areas of blue. Green is hard to find in oriental rugs but it is out there.

I digress. I think I'm just babbling at this point. I think I need to go get that Elle Decor and look at the pretty pictures.

How interesting about selling homes with blue interiors. One of the houses we looked at renting here was painted in about 103 shades of blue. While I have no issues with blue (except for teal - hideous), I did bolt for the door.

I guess I feel the same about blue as Erin. I saw the new Elle Decor and for the first time in years passed it by.

Now the blue sky beyond your deck? That's another story...

Funny. I looked at it again. It looks completely better on your blog than in the mag.

I'm just glad Ms. Russell changed her photo so I don't have to look at her cleavage anymore.

Easily the best issue all year. Hands down.
