And we're back

To celebrate The Pea's second birthday, we took a 3-day trip to a little town two hours north of us. Hanmer Springs is nestled in a small valley in the Southern Alps. The town sprang up in the mid-1800s when natural thermal springs were discovered. The springs are now part of a large aquatic complex which features hot spring-fed pools, fresh water swimming areas, water slides, and a luxury spa.

Hanmer is also an outdoor playground with hiking, skiing, horseback riding, and extreme sports. This company offers scenic helicopter tours and off-road four-wheeling.

A shot of our motel with The Pea wandering the parking lot.

The Pea deciding on her tapas selection. (Kiwi children's swimsuits cover much of the body because of the thinness of the ozone layer down this way. You can burn to a crisp in no time flat.)

A typical late 19th-century Kiwi building, now a restaurant. Here, this type of house is called a "character villa."

On the way home today, we stopped at a winery. The Pea was beyond happy to get out and stretch her legs.

The Pea running free in the herb garden. The ornamental grapevines in the background were covered in anticipation of the hail storm that hit about an hour ago.

The next post will be nothing but New Zealand landscape porn...

So beautiful.
I hope pea found some good poles to practice her 'pre school tuition fee' skills on, plus she was really reading the wine list not the tapas wasnt she?
Hope you had a great trip, looking forward to porn. Landscape or not.

It truly was a tapas menu. An interesting way to present it, I agree.

Do they make those swimsuits for grown ups? Some of us are pasty and burn to a crisp even in Texas.

Looks like you have a great time!

Looks like you had a great time with your two sweeties. Yay for vacations! BTW-how is your computer doing, fully recovered I hope? Can I uncross all my fingers and toes? :0)

Yes, NKP, you can across your digits. Sorry to have kept you in discomfort.

My laptop dried out (from yet another liquid incident) and is working wonderfully. I was so panicked knowing that we'd have to pay out of pocket for any repairs.

Now no liquid is allowed within five feet of my laptop.
