Uh oh Domino

The February 2009 issue of Domino is up online and, my oh my, I am more than a little worried about this magazine. Your thoughts?

oh........wow. I really hope this isn't all in one house. That kitchen makes me think I've lost my mind. I'm scared.

I think the top one is gorgeous. 2 is somebody's "updated Lilly Pulitzer" concept, 3 is fine, and 4 is really out of place. What does the Raina have to say?

Oh goodness! The first word that leaps to mind is ghastly...
especially the last one!

Reminds me of the first issue of the magazine. I bought it and later tried to subscribe, but guess I'm just too old. It hurts my eyes. Hate it - this is just awful.

Well, the styling has really gone downhill, hasn't it? It's like someone is taking risks in all the wrong places. I generally agree with Nerf's assesment. I particularly loathe the preppy wallpaper and, wtf? Guitars on the wall? It looks like a country fried dorm room.

The first two are Elle Decor wannabe which isn't Domino's thing. The next one gives me a throbbing between my eyes and a bit of vertigo.

The last one is actress Zooey Daschenel's place. I'm thinking they photographed her house (apt?) just because she is semi-famous and looked cute the cover.

The story I want to see has a broken link, so I'll have to be patient. A quality I don't possess.

That last one is probably the ugliest thing I've ever seen, I can't even focus on the other rooms it's so bad.

And really, Zooey? I thought I liked you. You can't just go hiring any old kook that says their a designer, lady.

The second and third pictures are atrocious! Why on earth would you want your walls to look like that? There is no reason to be afraid of prints, but the colors and pattern are overload.
Also, the last picture doesn't even deserve a response. Awful.

I thought I read that Zooey's house (and I love her) was done with help from Ruthie Sommers.

I really like the first two and the kitchen gives me vertigo but I love black and white so much.

Incidentally, I just found on Elements of Style that this is Mary Macdonald's guest house and I love everything she does so it doesn't surprise me.

Is blue all they are going to offer us in 2009?

wow, they are seriously recycling, too... half that organizing story was from a feature they did a couple of years ago.

It did seem like the first two shots belonged in a different magazine (as you say, 'trying' to be Elle Decor, but looking more in the class of rejected-by-Elle-dump-it-to-some-other-mag). I actually really like the kitchen, especially the zigzags in the lamp being echoed, and yeah, I am super-sucker for b/w. The Zooey shot looks like a 'you won the contest so the designer will help you revamp your room' rooms, with very low budget.
