Another one bites the dust

Luxury bedding retailer Nancy Koltes Fine Linens has closed its New York store and shut down its retail website. The Beverly Hills store is closing for "remodeling." I guess all of those ads in high-end shelter mags broke the budget. Oh yeah, and the recession.

I finally got around to watching last week's Bill Maher last night, and he had some economists on who were predicting a very, very dire future for the economy.

He also had crazy Ron Paul on there saying, Let the banks fail! Let everything tank! in his crazy old man voice.

All in all, a very disturbing episode.

I hear what you're sayin'. Can you believe a mere eight years ago, the US actually had a budget surplus? But hey, it's OK because now the world is safe from terrorists. Or some such nonsense.

Oooooh la la the luxury of yummy soft sheets... LOVE them!
I just posted about New Zealand recently... pop over and let me know what you think.

This is getting seriously depressing!

Oh, god. I am glad to see it's not a photo of Elle Decor.

Shwew.

Fifi, I left a comment on your NZ post. That rose-colored glasses view of pretty mountains, flocks of sheep, and a clean green lifestyle is simply not the reality here.

Reality is an eye-popping crime rate, heartbreaking domestic abuse and infanticide statistics, overt racism, a wallet-draining cost of living, and a pervasive cultural autism.

Spending two or three weeks bouncing from tourist trap to tourist trap will not give someone an accurate assessment of this country. Unless he or she is one of the many tourists robbed, stabbed, or assaulted (NZ is listed as one of the 5 most dangerous countries to visit).

Enough about this place. I know my dear readers are tiring of my Kiwi harangues.

HG, Seriously.

My heart will break into a million pieces if ED goes under.

I was just thinking this morning... I hope we don't have to stand in bread lines. :( :( :(

It's one thing not to get what you want... it's another thing to have to ration or fight over what you NEED. FECK!

I know, WPZ, I know. Maybe I should limit my posts to pretty pictures and the occasional snark.

We all have enough reality to deal with.

High-end bedding as a sole line of business befuddles me. How many sets of new sheets does one family need? If they are really good quality, one shouldn't have to replace them often enough to keep a store like this in biz, no matter what the economy.

You're so right, Robin. Even my reasonably-priced LL Bean flannels last five years before disintegrating.

Raina, hubs sent me an article on Conde Nast yesterday. You should post on it. I don't have time.

Conde Nast for years has been the very definition of corporate excess and it's finally caught up to them. They're going to have to strongly consider web publishing if they're going to survive.
