Sunrise off the back deck

We've enjoyed a glorious bout of Indian summer weather these past three days. The clouds rolling in over the mountains tells me we're in for a change soon.

For those of you new to La Lamp Shade, off our back deck you can see the Pacific Ocean to the right, the estuary to the left, and the Southern Alps mountain range in the hazy distance. I will miss this view when we leave in three months.

This morning, I'm digging through our closets for goodies to sell on TradeMe (Kiwi eBay). I just listed a beautiful Jean-Michel Frank-inspired sofa that hubby hates. I've had it for 10 years and recovered it twice. I have two bolts of zebra-print ultrasuede I would love to put on it, but LB says it's not coming back with us.

Dumplings, do you agree with LB or do you think a zebra sofa would be delicious?

That sunset looks so beautiful; you and your family are very fortunate to have had such a great experience. Any chance Austin, TX is in your relo plans?!? :)

Wow Ultrasuede Zebra would be quite awesome! but not for my lounge room!

For some reason, I have trouble picturing that fabric and that couch coexisting happily, I want to see that fabric on a very skinny, clean-lined mod couch (possibly with skinny metal legs, but that's just me).

Animal prints aren't my fave... but I have no sense of style and I'd let you do ANYTHING you wanted to make my house look as cool as I'm sure yours does.

If it helps you get back here - sell it! :)

Still keeping everything crossed for you guys!

I thought you hated zebra print! In any case, the plan sounds genius. DO IT.

That sunset--Aaaaah! Beautiful.

I'm not sold on the zebra print either--too Z Gallerie. But I'd probably love it once I saw it in action in the room you'd design for it.

I AM sold on that sofa. It's great. I can see why you've held onto it for so long.

I too, thought you hated zebra print. Maybe just on the floor?
I would sell the couch with good thoughts of getting a fabulous new one when you get back here.
(that sunrise is amazing!)

Amazing sunset!

I'm torn about the sofa. Great lines versus traveling light. I'm no help.

So you're really, really moving?! Really????????

I think I like the couch better in its current incarnation. I'm really not a fan of prints on large pieces of furniture (mostly because I have such a fear of commitment, and then when I do commit, I realize I'm bored already. Above commentary does not apply to hubby!), but I'm a total sucker for anything even remotely psychedelic.

Dumplings, the sofa sold within 24 hours on Buy It Now. Either it is more fabulous than I previously thought or I priced it too low. Oh well. It's done and dusted.

Just to clarify, I really do love zebra rugs but am sick to death of it being the current decorating shorthand for "Aren't I chic?" And this ultrasuede is the shit. I should unroll it an give you all an idea of the repeat.

HOS - Sorry Austin was knocked out of contention. I was deeply and bitterly disappointed - TRUST.

is that sunset real??? that is stunning!!! i'm going to agree with the LB. I used to love zebra stuff but man I am so sick of seeing it. Cover the sofa in something else!!! Marimekko would make it so perfect.

Dang, sold already? Well, it is pretty special.

Zebra is rad and would be fabulous on the sofa.

Oh, and I am not jealous at all of the view. No, not at all. Nope, no... you convinced yet?

I would have done the sofa in a neutral and then a club chair in the zebra. I think on the sofa it would have been too much. But it sold, so no matter. And now you can get something fabulous and delivered locally when you move back to the states instead of having to wait forever for your stuff to come from around the world and then when it arrives you've changed your mind.....

Boo hoo, pretty sofa gone. I loved the print as is, but zebra would have been delicious too. Oh well, now you get to come up with another fab project for that bolt of stripiness!

I thought you hated zebra, too.

The ultrasuede zebras of the world are so happy.
