The platinum budget honeymoon

Travel + Leisure has an eye-popping slide show of the world's most luxurious honeymoon destinations. From cruise ship penthouses and 7200-square-foot hotel bridal suites to remote South Pacific over-water thatched-roof bungalows, these locales spit in the eye of the Great Recession.

Fashion designer Donna Karan rents out her private house, The Sanctuary, on the exclusive island of Parrot Cay in Turks and Caicos. Amenities include private beach access, an infinity pool, a personal chef, two butlers, and a second-floor master bedroom with 360-degree views of the island. $20,000 per night.

At the Six Senses Hideaway Zighy Bay in the Sultanate of Oman, you can ask for one of the two Private Retreats with architecture based on that found in traditional Omani villages. Located on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula, the resort is dramatically situated between the rugged Hajar Mountains and beautiful Zighy Bay. Each retreat features a spa treatment room, library, butler service, and overlooks an infinity pool and private beach. $6500 a night.

At the Eagle Island Camp situated on the island of Xaxaba in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, the Private Suite offers a shaded splash pool, outdoor shower and copper bath tub, a private game tour, and a huge viewing deck to better commune with the resort's inhabitants - hippos, crocodiles, and elephants. $2010 a night.

LB and I never took a honeymoon and I have my sights set on a romantic getaway to New Orleans next year...

Raina, I feel for you, we never got a honey moon either..... do you think any of the above rent by the hour?

In this economy, I would think they'd be open to any reasonable other.

Other? I meant "offer."

Yes please.
Other half and I watched a Travel Channel thing on Mitford Sound in New Zealand. I think we need to go. Have you been in that area?

Great minds! We are taking our honeymoon to New Orleans at the end of the month. So excited!

OAM, sadly we have not been to Mitford Sound.

Imagine existing on half your current salary in San Francisco or NYC and you'll get an idea of the cost of living here. We've not been able to afford to travel anywhere of note, knowing that we had to save every penny for the move back to the States.

If you and the BH want to travel here, Mitford Sound and Queenstown are two of the spots Americans seem to enjoy the most.

Love that tub - you would not be able to get me out of it.

I find it ironic that the price to rent DK's house is so extravagant that the only people who could afford it probably have their own similar digs anyway...
