Man shoes

After several seasons of gladiators and sky-high scary-looking heels (reference the feet of any French fashion editor on The Sartorialist), the newest trend in footwear is man shoes. Oxfords and jazz lace-ups to be exact. Would you believe the sparklers below are by Christian Louboutin, the king of the 5-inch heel?
I'm all for comfort, but these don't flatter the leg nor are they in any way pretty. What do you think, Dumplings? Are you ready for the return of man shoes?

That was an 80s trend I enjoyed, but think I will pass this time around.

Not that my current Dansko collection is in any way pretty.

I love wingtips! Plus when saddle shoes were cool, my mother never let me get them. Now's my chance!!

I think that top pic is cute...but only on those oh-so-long matchstick go-on-forever legs. On my oh-so-short legs, not so pretty.

I actually love um! I have a pair in silver which i wear with turned up skinny jeans, tres cool. There is something very french about them but i know they're not for everyone, i do get some strange looks when i'm out and about. ;)

I don't mind them, and bet they will look great on some...but not for me.

Never, never ewwww....

Reminds me of those horrible white Capezio dance shoes that everyone ran around in back in the early 80's.

Hee hee, I have a pair or two of oxfords, which I don't often wear now, but which I wore constantly when I taught school. They made me feel smarter.

Now that I have swollen pregnant cankles, I wouldn't dare!

I LOVE the pink and brown wing tips! Also craving something that's in the same vein--those classic beige and navy saddle shoes of yore.

I did the old man shoe in college, but only all-black and without socks and a short dress.

What's the saying? Something like, if you wore it the first time around you can't wear it the second? Maybe I'm just making excuses, but I'm not loving them.

Those oxford heels Designer's Brew posted, however, are awesome.

Oh, I loved my white jazz shoes in the 80s! So, if I follow the rule, I can't have them again, maybe in black this time? I've almost always taken comfort over looks, so shoot me. I've got bad feet.

They probably would look better on the younger set, though :)

Sorry drollgirl, they are not for this bird. Nay, nay, a thousand times nay.

I think they are cute! with exception of the sparklers. I keep sparklers for Dorothy only. She needs that extra spaarRkle to work magic!

I love it and used to wear them in the early 80s. Now, I would buy the pink and brown wingtips to make myself smile whenever I needed it. So fab! I'm 5'1.5" though... I look icky in flats and crave height.
