Should closets be left open?

The Los Angeles Times.

The mirrored sliding doors were taken off this guest room closet described by the designer as looking like "the inside of a Hermès box." There are no hidden or pocket doors nor any curtains covering the opening.

I'm not crazy about the idea of open closet doors...even when the inside looks like a Hermes box...my closet would NEVER look that neat so it would end up looking like the inside of a Burger King box...

Personally, I don't want to see the contents, no matter how well organized they are.

Our master closet it a room of open hanging space and shelving and a few drawers. It's great, but next time we'd both prefer a similar layout with doors to close things off.

And Jack is doing really well. The drugs must work because his eye is open and he's acting completely normal. We go back to the vet for a re-check tomorrow.

The inside of a Hermes box looks like a crappy closet? Hmmm, I guess I'm not missing out on anything then.

Hah. If anyone outside of a styled shot for a magazine had a closet that looked like that it might be reasonable to have no doors on your closet. But even in a guest room, you had better not have any guests or that thing will just look like ass really quick, and not in a "Hermes box" kind of way.

my closet is actually super organized. I won't even let matt fold laundry because I like all of our shelves of folded clothes to look like the gap (lets not get ahead of ourselves and assume that i shop at the gap - i do not) anyway. my closet = clean, my closet doors = shut.

Noooooo! I don't even like the looks of that "closet" (if there's nothing in it, how can it even be a closet?).

Also, the name itself tells you everything you need to know. Closet = Close it.

Silly. Is there no place that can be private and not on display. A stretch...

Isn't it bad feng shui to have your closet doors open (or non-existant)?

If they are mine then no, HELL NO, absolutely not!

They should not be left open. Some things, like closet doors and Paris Hilton's legs, are better left closed.

Nice one Anne!

Ok, I do agree. But, now I have a question. What about a walk-in? We have one in our master bedroom that for more reasons that I care to share, can't really have a regular door. I hate the look of bi-fold doors and am thinking about a curtain. It is huge (almost like another room) so I am tempted to trick it out like a rad dressing room.
Thoughts?

The City Sage - gold star comment of the day.

Thehomebound - A walk-in closet is an entirely different beast. A tricked-out dressing room cum personal clothing boutique would be delicious.
