First glimpse of our master bedroom

Award me no points for my photo styling efforts, but I finally have all of the master bed elements together and wanted to share. I love me some layered patterns and since there will be very little furniture in this room, I went to town.

The Sag Harbor Indigo sheets, Mahogany king shams, and Olive euros are all from John Robshaw and available at Pillow Mint. The ikat-patterned comforter is from Target (!). The embroidered pillow is from my old shop, and I picked up the little brown and navy chevron one for $7 at TJ Maxx. The bed is IKEA's oldie but goodie Malm in the oak veneer finish.

The bed is resting against the mirrored closet doors (cue Rick James' "Superfreak"), because we have 5 closets in our bedroom and will be hard-pressed to fill two. Eventually, we will tear out the mirrored closet to gain an extra couple of feet. The former owner's custom headboard you see in this "before" photo was tossed out in this week's large item pick-up.

I'm also starting to look at paint colors. LB wants a dark sleeping cave, so I'm looking at near-blacks. This one is Benjamin Moore's "Salamander" and it turned out much more green than the chip - thank the Spaghetti Monster for sample pots. A deep purple crossed my mind, but ages ago I read somewhere that purple is a libido killer. Can't have that in the master bedroom.

Color looks great.. Too green?

TFAD - I don't mind a green cast, but I was hoping it would be blacker.

It's coming together so well! I'll be at Target tomorrow looking for that comforter.

As you're perusing more paint (I agree with you, this is too green) take a peek at Sherwin Williams (I think) Peppercorn. Darkest charcoal/lightest black. My friend Rich painted his bedroom that color and did a wall of b/w houndstooth drapes, it's gorgeous. And SpagMon knows you don't have to worry about the walls closing in on you in that enormous room! =)

I was just in Target buying bedding for my boy. They have some cool stuff right now (though for him, plain flannel for $20 is fine).

Can't wait to see the whole room...

ok what about a deep charcol you know from a deep purple hue!! More gray maybe... Ok I know none of my business but thought your bed would pop with something like that....I feel funny telling you that though!!! Your style is terrific!!!

David - I think you're right about adding more dark gray. I will definitely check out that Peppercorn color.

Robin - Isn't AB just the most brilliant?

Amy - You're on the right track with that gray suggestion. My next sample pots will be Southern Vine, a gray-green-brown-charcoal, and River Rock, a deep charcoal with a hint of green.

And welcome to this deliciousness!

ahhhh purple. So thats where it all went wrong.
Might get me down to Target to get some of those great sheets. Oh no! I forgot! because of where I live if its not nylon, we wont be able to get it.
Sorry am fed up with this place.
Please open your shop again, and dark slatey grey would be lovely.

great fabric choices, girl! i am with amy on the charcoal/gray rather than the green. i do gravitate towards the deep purple, but would much prefer to get it on! LOL!

Gotta love Target! The layers look very cool.

I used Behr's poppy seed in our living room, and I love the color...sometimes it comes across as charcoal, sometimes navy, sometimes black. Who knows? Maybe worth a shot. They have another color called restless sea that comes across as a bit green but maybe slightly darker than what you have now.

I'm beyond jealous that you have soooooo many closets that some will go unused and you'll push your bed up against them. Wah, wah.

I like the idea of making your current green more charcoal-y. And your bedding is so gorgeous. I just love the mix of patterns and colors. And Target for that ikat? No way!

Hee, Raina, I was just going to suggest DP, and I see that Robin already did it for me. Am I about to be overexposed? :)

I personally want you to do the super high gloss walls and gold ceiling that Erin just posted about. It is already looking awesome with all your fab bedding!

I still can't get over those carved wooden screens! Those would look amazing glossed out. Cant wait to see what direction those are going to go in!

Love the peacock greens.. When I saw the bedding, I was guessing it was going to go in a Deep Indigo- Dark charcoaly/ navy direction.. Like DP with a serious indigo roots.

Love the bedding!!! Thank god you have a visit to Sanders scheduled soon, he'll get you set up with all the right colors. (He's brilliant at forecasting what colors will pop out once you paint a large sample)

For the record, I don't mind that green at all.

RIP headboard

LOVE! We were lusting after the malm at IKEA on Sat. and had to put that on the backburner cash-wish, but we it is a strong, next-purchase contender.

WV: ootogy, don't know what that is, but I like the way it sounds.

Personally I like that peacock green and I think the hot ikat would be a real stand out against it...but I know what you're going for. The bedding, wow! I seriously love it all and the fab mix of prints is my fave. I think this girl might just have to pay a visit to tarzjay for that comforter. I really likes it!

Bravo Madam!

First, love the mix of patterns you chose.

Second, great ideas from many readers... Downpipe, you say? High gloss gold ceiling? And, (in another room) I am loving the houndstooth curtains/gray walls combo that David's awesome friend has going on.

Bummer than you can't do purple/eggplant, but I am loving Farrow and Ball's Hague Blue and Railings. I also do not hate the greenish color you have now...
