N'Aught-y interiors

Desire to Inspire.

So I'm working on an end-of-the-year post discussing the major design trends and movements of the Aughts. And, damn, if we haven't moved through a few.

I ran across this room which seems to be feverishly trying to capture each and every one. Rustic beamed ceilings, color-blocked paint, architecturally-intriguing-yet-death-defying staircases, black chandeliers, Ghost chairs, mid-century modern furniture. OY!

The rest of my day will be spent scraping the remaining wallpaper glue off and then washing down my daughter's bedroom walls. What are you up to, Dumplings? Preparing for a T-Day visit with your mother who put the "aggressive" in passive-aggressive and Great Uncle Joe who smells like Ben-Gay and mothballs and makes a Tourette's sufferer blush?

oh man, I can't wait for the epic end of year post! and the wallpaper reveal!!

This picture is giving me seizures. I can already imagine stumbling across it 20 years from now in a design book from 2009 and LMAO.

I have never typed that acronym before.

Frankly I'm disappointed at the lack of zebra rug under that table.

see, I'm sorta anti-ghost chair. they look pretty neat in a room, but i think i would hate to see people sitting in them, especially in the summer. all that flesh squished up against the back and the seat.

can't wait for the aught round up (and your guest room reveal!).

was that room ever a good idea? Lots of nice pieces sure, but also a mishmash of toomuchmoneynotenoughtaste
ya know? By the way- did you ever declare a winner on the bedroom paint color? Can't wait to see your home progressing!

I laughed out loud in carpool when I read your description
of the photo. J asked me what's so funny. How do I
explain THAT room to a four-year-old?

And yes, I am so old school I still spell out "laugh out loud." I don't think I'll ever get used to that!

That chandelier is fantastic but adding the ghost chairs...perfect!

Oh, that's going to be an amazing post...

This room makes me laugh. I've been so primed to LOVE it, but meh.

How's the wallpapering going? So excited to see the results!

Erin - Oh man, it's taking forever. Trying to scrape the old wallpaper glue off is so time intensive. Add a toddler to the mix and it's damn near impossible to do except on the weekend.

It's still going to be a few weeks before that gorgeous paper is finally up.

So funny! Underneath the zebra rug suggested by Robin, I suggest layering a black and white zig zag or offset stripes Weinrib rub. And throw in some painted retro chinoiserie-ish bamboo-look chairs a la Adler. And don't forget a Saarinen table. Or do forget a Saarinen table -- I love those and don't want to think of them as too trendy.

I always liked the Ghost chair until someone told me they saw it in a bathroom. I imagined someone sitting in it nude and it just grossed me out from that point on.
