Looks a helluva lot better than my mag piles.

My husband would say we need to invest in a book case. I say, at least they are not on the floor. With a spot like that, it looks almost perfect! A very happy weekend to you ~

Are they expecting a flood?

Barefoot little girl's feet + heavy objects stacked high off the ground = no chance of smashed toes and tears

Eh. Not offensive. Not interesting.

I think I wish I were there. I love the windows and the rustic staircase and I'll take my books any which way I can find them. Looks like a happy place to me.

Interesting pic! Both love it and thinks it's to messy. Now, where is that book I read last year...oh it's in the bottom of the pile! furthest in..! =) Happy weekend /Mia

Books should be loved, not abused!

i get vertigo on staircases -- i'd need a railing.
but the little girl is cute; and i'm with nkp; i'll take books however i can get them!

I am so tired of seeing books used like pillows to style a space. I dont want to to see them covered with white papers, turned backwards on a shelf, sorted by colors, none of it. Put it up on a shelf or table where it wont get destroyed and maybe even read it...

Hey, they're working my look! Actually, my piles are toppling and they make a nice semi-circle around my favorite chair. I actually love everything about this photo.

Other than the piles, ditto to mypoliticalexile on the book jackets and backwards facing. As silly as putting the tv in an easel.

Cute kid, but I agree. Love the windows, neat stairs, now go buy a bookshelf. Stacking heavy books is bad for their spines.

the books look sort of stupid, but I want to marry those windows and all of the golden light streaming in.

I hate it. The books I mean. What are they trying to say? "we're cool, we keep our books stacked up on tree stumps under the stairs"

I like the way it looks visually, but it's a little too merchandised/anthro-y. NOW. what would be awesome, is a low custom bookcase built along that wall below the windows, and a few of those thar' stumps for a-sitting and a-readin'.

I love it.
I have a secret lust for a barn. I also love stacked high books. It seems subversively effortless. You can't constrain me to your book shelves.

MESSY

Are they having a book sale under those stairs?

I would not be able to stand for this. If I had no other place/way to store my books, um, okay, but why would you want to root around (and bang your head!) to find a book?

david john said...

not so sure about it. ill take a built in anyday, or ill take a stack, without the wood below..

Love the stairs...the books would make me nuts...they would forever be on my list of things to do.

My thoughts?

Fucking. Bookshelves.

Ever hear of them?

Cristin said...

oh, and that kid is so gonna make a mess out of that shit.

I agree with Exile... I prefer my books straight up and classic.

Oh my stars. I see lots and lost of dust, the dog ball rolling in between those piles, the kids making a mess digging for a book, piles being knocked down as kids fly through the house and I wonder how they vacuum around them.

I really like the stairs and windows, but would be nervous of falling children.

erin@designcrisis said...

How could you ever find anything except spider eggs in those piles?

No.

not appealing in the least. cristin captured my thoughts wonderfully.
