Pantone's color pick for 2010

The Pantone Color Institute, supplier of color standards to design industries, has chosen "Turquoise" as the color of 2010.

House Beautiful.

"Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, says there was no runner-up to turquoise in her mind because people crave escapism and freshness after a tough year. The shade is on the cusp of blue and green, which makes it both inviting and serene — characteristics associated with blues — and invigorating and luminous, which comes from green, she says."

Living Etc.

I think it's a huge improvement over last year's pick. What say you, Dumplings?

its my all time favorite & I slather myself in this colour all the time- but being announced colour of the year - Im worried. They gonna ruin it for me.

I also love this colour but usually use it as an accent for a "pop" of colour.

That first pic from House Beautiful is just perfect as an example of how well the colour can work as a theme rather than an accent colour. It's also perfect for a colour assignment I have atm. Thanks so much for posting it.

Yes. Love it. Have for a really long time. Hope it does not now become repulsive.

Thanks, Raina, for the welcome yesterday!
I definitely like this better than last year's pick. In fact, I'm thinking of a shade like the House Beautiful shot, only in my 1950/1 kitchen.

Me likey. Yet worried that there will be overkill by way of Target.

I don't know... I kind of miss the yellow. But then I had turquoise living room walls for over a year and they nearly killed me with their serenely invigorating luminosity.

One of my faves but I agree with Movie that this just invites mass marketers to ruin it for the rest of us.

Did you see Farrow & Ball's color predictions? One of their top picks was last year's Pantone pick. Late much?

Uh oh. That swatch is the EXACT color of my bedroom walls. Now I worry about overkill too.

Good thing I adore my bedroom walls. I will have to be strong.

PS - wasn't this the color of Mrs. O's fabulous dress the day of the White HOuse Holiday Decor unveiling?

Robin - It was! She is not only lovely and gracious, Mrs. O possesses color prescience.

i do love the yellow, but i am a sucker for turquoise! lurve it!

i just bought a yellow wool coat and people actually smile when they see it. (or perhaps they think i look like a freak! bahaha!)

I think it's great, but I think they're a year behind - on both colors: yellow was so '08 and turquoise has been killing in '09.

For the love of god, when is someone going to make me president of the color association already?

I'm on board. But I think Karly is right and she has my vote!

Karly for President! And I agree that they are a year behind and that they have now officially killed our beloved turquoise.

Yeah! I'm officially in style for once! My favorite crayon as a child was "seafoam green" and as a teenager I was weighted down with turquoise jewelry. All shades of blue/green have been my favorites for years in my home. I especially love it with red!
