Living room sneak peek

All of the design books I ordered arrived today and my ginormous coffee table swallowed them up. Per Sandy K's request, I will try to give each a review. It may take a while for me to plow through them - I plan to savor each page.

As you can see, last weekend's plan to remove the old wallpaper fell through. Meaning I found 101 more interesting things to occupy my time. Now that the new wallpaper had been ordered, I will need to get a move on. Jamie Foley has offered to be my assistant in exchange for my teaching her the finer points of hanging. And the paper we will be working with is...

Osborne & Little's "Davidia" from the Suzy Hoodless "Hothouse" collection. The color is a dusky purple with a French grey background. The pattern is based on the floral photography of artist Jim Dine. Delicious! (You may remember I used another paper from the same collection for The Pea's bedroom.)

To give you an idea of the scale, here is the paper in a different colorway.

Keep an eye out in the coming weeks, Dumplings, for a full room reveal...

Jamie - Isn't that Obama pillow just the best? I can't remember where I first saw it, but here's the link to buy it:

it reminds me of a Georgia O'Keefe black iris, only more gloriously menacing.

I think it's absolutely gorgeous wallpaper. And I might just hang the very same paper. I could absolutely jump on a plane and appear on your doorstep -- I want a lesson too! And your coffee table is GINORMOUS. Love it. My mother-in-law has a huge one too and the entire thing is covered in stacks of decorating books.

So jealous. I still have about four weeks to wait for my Amazon US order.

Can't wait for the reviews to begin!

That wallpaper is beautiful - I particularly like the colourway you have chosen.

Great wallpaper! I must know what the scent of that candle is? Does it smell like Obama?

stunning! i want to jump in and swim with that wallpaper.

HG - The candle is called "Dressing Room" by Ruffian for Anthropologie. Its notes are described as "red lipstick, silk stockings, feather powder puff, and Casablanca Lilly [sic]."

I'm betting (and hoping) that's not what President Obama smells like.

Wow, where to start. You weren't kidding about the coffee table. that thing is gargantuan! Better to contain all that amazing reading material! And I totally remember posting that wallpaper way back when in its green version, but I didn't recognize it in this more subtle tone. It is so beautiful and I love the in your face, not to be missed, scale. The proportions are fantastic. I can not wait to see this up and wish so badly that I could be there to help and get a lesson.

I'd say you are not shy... :)

can you give dimensions of gargantuan table? I just can't get my head around it without the specifics.

I think this whole subject of tables in front of sofas needs to be a full blown post. I waited about 3 years before I found the perfect cocktail table to sit in front of my sofa and found that during that time of hunting I learned so much about how, at least in my environment, it really set the tone for the room. Even more than the sofa or any other large piece. Inspired yet?

Love that wallpaper. I recently put it forward for a clients scheme myself. Sadly a nup. Kinda lucky though -I just got an email from the supplier saying they wont be representing O&L in Aus any more.... something to do with O&L's bad moolah situation. Maybe you should buy yours quick stix!
