The new Lonny has themes

Instead of my usual Lonny snark, I thought I would present the new issue's overriding themes.

1. 2010's COLOR OF THE YEAR (yes, caps are necessary) ****Turquoise****

(I'm a little disturbed to see not one but TWO white slipcovered sofas.)

2. Mini-bars

3. Ikat

4. It's the recession, yo. Louis Vuitton has replaced Hermes' Birkin as the prop of choice.

Ok, I have to get in a little snark or else my frontal lobe begins to throb. A Shitty Chic chippy white pressed tin mirror will NEVER EVER go with an acrylic console.

Never ever ever. EVER.

TY for sharing colour of the year. Seems it's going more earthy tones?

A snarky, indeed.

You seems to know every DIY my petité lounge §;-)

I have been considering looking at the new issue, but since the last two just got me all angry and riled up that those folks are getting so much attention for featuring uninteresting derivative slipcovered schlock that really and truly your synopsis is all i really need!! (and of course my dose of daily deliciousness!)

back to redecorating

I'll take the minibars and leave the rest... except for KW's Avalon Hotel.

I am a huge fan of Turquoise, but a bit tired of getting hit over the head with it. Also, a smidge tired of Ikat, Donghia did Ikat about 5 years ago so it has been on my trend radar for a little too long. I have a way of seeing the best in all design, so I appreciate you for your snark, I need that sometimes!

I just found you and I couldn't be happier!! Ditto. In all caps. No tin mirror w/ arylic. Or no tin mirror, ever. Really. And though I do love LV, I noticed the careful logo staging (hermes takes center stage, too) and was a tad disturbed.

I thought the 3rd issue was head and shoulders above the previous two. I really liked the Wearstler and Burnham articles.

Keep the snark coming!

I agree about the jewelry on the lampshade bit. Yuck, but did I not see some memo about slipcovered sofas? I do know this is a hot topic as I've been around when some commenter goes into a total lather about slipcovers, but are we hating them now?

Raina Cox said...

Kate - I don't hate slipcovers, they just remind me too much of Rachel Ashwell.

I hate slip covers. (Yes, I do have a dog, too.)

Slightly tired of ikat, but I still like it.

I hate jewelry on lampshades.

That tin mirror is but a smidge away from being one of those mirrors you see on reality shows where the mirrors are like 3" square and then have a 9" square frame. I am having trouble describing it. It's kind of like this:

You've done it again. I think that I never have to read anything again, I just need to come to your site and get the low-down on what's happening in the world. Years ago in college a professor gave me a compliment that has stuck in my head ever since..."clear, concise, coherent, you have a gift for synthesis." As do you my dear.

Oh, and thanks for the heads-up on turquoise, wasn't aware of that one yet. ;0)

This issue seems to be a rehash of every hackneyed style-don't trend of the past 14-16 months. Also, isn't it a little odd that each of these bars features Pimm's, Tanqueray and Maker's Mark? Oh, wait, there's a lone bottle of Hendricks peaking out from behind the whale penis/compote dish display in one.

I noticed the exact same LV bag in two shots, and also the same liquor bottles. I thought they musta dragged their bag o' tricks around to each shoot!

So long as those sofas are slipcovered in white Belgian linen, I wouldn't worry about them at all, dear. It's all quite proper.
