YES!!!

ThankYouThankYouThankYou, Retail Gods! IKEA announced today that they will be opening their Denver store in the fall of next year. The Swedes have been pretty cagey about the whole thing since a vague press release in 2008 stated the Mile High city's first blue and yellow box of goodness was on its way.

The best part? It will be 10 minutes from my house.

You know there's a whole subculture of people who go to those stores just to hang out? There a 350,000 square footer about a half an hour from here and I've seen tour buses disgorging what look to be some lost tribe of Branson, Missourians. They then go inside and just walk around. It's the strangest thing.

There's not one IKEA in all of Delaware. I will also take a W-S Home Store while we're at it. And a Target for the beach, please.

Paul -- when I was pregnant we hung out at Ikea so I could do laps in the air conditioning, followed by an ice cream cone. I called it "exercise."

Raina, the Denver Ikea will probably be closer to my house than the Austin one is.

Erin: Tell that story to their PR people. That's hilarious!

sweet! so happy for you. I totally take for granite that there are two Ikea's in the Philadelphia area. one literally a mile from my place. I would walk there, but you know I could never carry all my finds back!

right on! let the shopping begin! and i HOPE they have not fucked up the parking on your ikea. the parking at the one in burbank, ca is AWFUL. so far away, SO FAR AWAY, and the tiny loading zone area is always jammed, and and and. it is kind of a deterrent to shopping there. but i hope yours has it all squared away!

Wow - that is fabulous news. After your two years in hell - you so deserve heaven! :)

This will be even better than you think! $1 pot holders, and you'll be shocked at what you can do with the parts of a bookshelf :) And having one so close, you'll become a pro and just go straight to the warehouse part without even having to walk the displays and vignettes. So exciting!! Marija

Happy happy IKEA to you Raina!
We were supposed to get a big blue and yellow box in Swansea a few years ago but they suddenly changed their minds and built it in Cardiff instead! So instead of travelling an hour and a half to Bristol we know travel an hour to Cardiff...utter madness building them so close to each other! GGggrrrrr....
