Throw pillow or car payment?

Vintage Kachic Embroidered Bugachi pillow, $700.

On his website John Robshaw has recently introduced "The Souk," a collection of throw pillows made of vintage fabrics as well as one-of-a-kind finds. While heart-stoppingly gorgeous, they are not cheap. The economy must be rebounding, because I've noticed the pillows do not hang around long.

Vintage Tay Wedding panel pillow, $275.

Vintage Uzbek Green Ikat pillow, $250.

Vintage Burmese Silk pillow, $300.

Vintage Guatemalan Woven pillow, $200.

They are beautiful. Really, stunningly beautiful. But I just couldn't fork over that much dough for a pillow. It's the immigrant in me. But woo hoo for the economy!

I don't understand why he doesn't recreate the fabric and sell 7,000 pillows at $50 each. That seems way more profitable than what he has here, which is like a really, really expensive version of Etsy.

I like to mix high and low, so I snapped up that $700 pillow to put on my Ektorp sofa.

Raina - I think I have the wrong profession :) - maybe I should start a pillow business - because I have so many vintage textiles from my travels that I could easily start this...hmmmm

Robin - the question is about "exclusivity" - only that pays really! Who cares for a pillow that exists 7000 x?

Car payment. Don't need a pillow that bad. But, my Grandfather use to say, if they are complaining about the prices, then you are not charging enough....and I find it to be true.

I find great fabrics on sale and have them made up inexpensively. Love the designer pillows, just not the $.

#2 fabric is to die for! I'll admit it, I have a slight pillow problem.

Raina, below link NSFW but the light fixture is making me drool! http://tsutpen.blogspot.com/2010/04/art-of-centerfold-56.html

Good lord, those prices are out of control. Who has that kind of $$$ to throw away on a pillow???

shoes, yes. bags, even more. pillows, no.

i found a great ebay seller via Desire to Inspire and picked up an incredible huge suzani for less than half what some online retailers are selling them for. More shoe money for me.

At some point (at these prices?) you gotta think that the emperor has no clothes. Or stupidly crazy not-worth-it clothes.

ok, I don't know what Colorado is like, but here in Toronto you could find this kind of thing in any "ethnic" market for pretty cheap ...
