Even the flowers are unhappy to be there

Nesting Newbies.

Totally agree, none of this goes together. Definitely a bad example of mixing modern and vintage pieces.

LOL....but the table is cute?

I didn't even notice the flowers when I looked at the piece in the magazine! The cabinets had me fixated. The thing that baffles me is that many, many people were probably involved with this room coming together...and they all thought they had a home run.

Those cabinets are terrible. Heinous.

When I look at this I hear the "Debbie Downer" noise go off in my head. At a quick glance the pattern on the wallpaper looks like its trying to slide off the wall in embarrassment.

LOL, that is just about the saddest title I've ever seen on a post--sounds like a Jean Rhys short story....

Okay, I'd kill for the Tulip table. Did someone steal the chairs from a high school cafeteria?

And those cabinets. The antiques dealer in me says, 'my, those are interesting' The homeowner in me says 'not in my house you don't'. Sometimes interesting isn't enough.

It took a second glance... and then I busted out laughing.

They know they'll never live up to the height of those cabinet legs.

Ditto ditto ditto. But can someone please tell me what those big shiny wrapped boxy things are in the foreground? And why oh why were they left in the photo? Oh, to GROUND it? hmmmmm

I literally have tears i my eyes. I want to run into that house and grab those poor little Eames Eiffel's and that beautiful Saarinen and run run run all the way to my house where they will be much more at home and away from that mess.

What's unfortunate is that the cabinets don't have to be bad... it's just those god-awful paintings (découpage?) on the doors.

Oh, but I would love to have that table!

am i missing something? i truly don't hate it as much as youz.
i admit the museum store bullshit posters decoupaged to the cabinets are hokey, i think everything else is kinda pretty. i love the painted ceiling. not crazy about damask in any room so this one is no exception but still...what are we all hating the most? i am curious. i mean i know i have a good eye so i can't have just gone r'tard overnight. what is it?

Well, now. That was a hearty chuckle you just gave me. Thanks!

I think the major issue is with scale and the relationships between the pieces. The cabinets are very grand...tall and substantial. That doesn't seem to relate well to the scale of the modern pieces.

The floor color doesn't seem to relate well to the table, chairs, and wallpaper. Perhaps my monitor is off, but the floor is coming off as a bit rustic to me and the table and chairs almost look photoshopped on top of it. It just doesn't seem cohesive to me.

It reminds me of the dollhouse I had as a child...some of my miniatures where made to fit the scale of my house and some were meant for Barbie, but I stuck them in there anyway.

I dont think its that awful. I dont like the damask, I dont like the placement of the cabinets, not in love with the fixture, but its not the WORST thing i ever saw.

Lots of nice pieces, and none of them go together.

I actually really like the cabinets minus the HIDEOUS decoupage drama.

Mostly what bothers me about this mess is the color scheme. The walls and ceiling appear to be the colors of ill mucus in the current setting. And the height of those fab cabinets (tho thoroughly embarrassed by that heinous art work) makes the room look tiny- Jeannine was dead on likening it to a messy, illmatched dollhouse.
