Jute chandelier - yes or no?

Dock Glow chandelier from Anthropologie, $798.

David John - Would this make Astuguevieille proud or weep?

But, hey, it might put out some good light if you set it on fire.

hate it as is but if you put some tole shades instead of what looks like garden string, then maybe it's a go.

eh.

putting toile on it would look horrible, I love the simplicity and design of it, clean, yet super classy

anthropologie is starting to piss me off. and not just because their clothing is made for women without boobs or hips. or guts.

GiniGL said...

Ditto to sherri!! And the jute lamp? Sorry - reminds me too much of my failed macrame plant hangers done while in high school (yes, I'm a wee bit older than most of your readers.)

No!!! But, if get too bored over the long weekend, I have several spools of this stuff in the garage...I'm sure I could whip up or tie up something!

tulpen said...

nope. even though i'm a reformed hippie and it sorta looks like hemp. still nope.

I was envisioning dusty macrame as well. Not really feeling it, especially at $800.

Robin said...

I bet that is fun to dust....

The shades take it over the edge. Although, Steven Gambrel could make this work beautifully.

I want to like it, I really do, but something is off. I think it's those shades. Hmmmm....

In the right environment with high ceilings, alot of white and a beach, oh yes-

Hell to the no. It looks like an over designed anchor, and it's dragging me down.

Appletree said...

I'm just not feeling it. Nope. Too literal.

In a beach house at 90 % off, yes !

No. It reminds me of a noose.

I hate it. I find it depressing. It's like a gorgeous woman with a burqa.

NO

Shelley Trbuhovich said...

nope, not for this femme. x

I think it has it's place...somewhere rustic or in Christian Astuguevieille's house.

anthropologie at it's stupidest always makes me laugh - whooo!

Yana said...

i'm not loving it, or the idea 'of an all black room' [no offense!]

For eight hundred bucks, I expect something dazzling. And very large.

It's a no for me. Not for a beach house, a cottage, or a boat. I'm just not a fan.

I once worked as a stylist assistant on a shoot in south Florida. We bought a thrift store headboard and hot glued rope to the entire thing for a beach house bedroom catalog shoot. This reminds me of that.

Raina Cox said...

Juliet - Hello and welcome to this deliciousness! I just love insider stories like that.

I once owned a divine rope chandelier from France----had a glass fishing float in the stem (not nearly as tacky as it sounds), and the arms curved upward appearing to defy logic and gravity (but not the steel rods woven in). I'd like this one better if the arrangement of the light fixtures weren't so exactly that of a budget ceiling fan from Home Depot. And the shades carry the joke too far to be good design.

But hey, that's just my opinion. What do I know?

Turn it upside down - put glass vases in the lamp shades - and fill with country flowers. Yee Haaawww It's a hoe down!

Lady from Connecticut said...

Yes, but lets have a contest to see who can knock this off the best and cheapest.

Jodi said...

Well I am having a heart attack because I just bought this at Anthropologie in Chicago for $29 because they said it doesn't work. All it needs is a $10 rewiring kit. I'm thrilled!

Raina Cox said...

Jodi - Good for you!

P.S. I've always thought it a "Yes!".
