Duty calls

Dumplings,

I'm going to be switching off La Lamp Shade for a month or so. I will be spending most of August helping my parents move. Given my mother's nearly 40 years of hoarding, this will be no small task.

I hope to see you all when I return, but if not, be well.

Hugs and inappropriate groping,

Raina

Enjoy your time away Raina, if enjoy's the appropriate word here. My sibs and I went through the same thing with our folks around ten years ago. I was dreading it but it ended up being a positive event from all angles. I hope your experience turns out the same way.

Before you go though, check out what Christian's running right now over at Maison 21. It's right up your alley: http://maison21.blogspot.com/2010/07/words-fail.html

I hope there are some forgotten treasures waiting in among the 40 years for you both to rediscover!

My mom was only in her house for 20 years before her move, my thoughts are with you.

30 days. Not one day longer. You hear?

Good luck with the hoarding thing. We're currently trying to bring reason to SIXTY years of my mother's hoarding. Nothing too small or broken to save. Ever.

As for you, 30 days. I'm starting counting right now.

Oh, dear God!! Bless your heart!! I am dreading the day, but have made some plans for this. Dumpsters solve many a problem, but it takes so long to decide and then, 6 siblings to negotiate. Choose what to keep and then purge, purge, purge. It is a hard thing for me.

Jane said...

40 years oh dear that is a lot of accumulated stuff to sort through. May you discover copper pots, 1960's Pucci dresses in pristine state, some little 1950's table lamps and perhaps some 1970's bean bags. Or worse. Or better. Good luck xoxo

Good luck and patience helping your parents. My father is quite a hoarder and almost kicks and screams when something has to be thrown away.
Will look forward to your return.

Charlotta Ward said...

You're a good daughter. I am sure they will be thrilled to have their little girl there to help. Even if the 40 years of hoarding will be a task to tackle, I am sure you will have so much fun rediscovering things from the past as well as old memories.

Will miss you whilst you are gone.

Hugs

I'll miss you Raina! Hopefully you come up with some treasures during the clean out?

I don't envy you one bit...my biggest fear is doing this OR having someone do it for me...probably why I am such a big purger!

I'm gonna miss you...so be sure to save all the crazy stuff to post and make us laugh when you get back!

Wow. Took us a week to clear out one room for my hoarding mom. Best Wishes. You will come back and want to throw out everything you own.
