other than the stacks of books, I'm right there with ya.
Even better when they are all combined together!

those are all great. I would add bamboo shades.

great post! always love to see what makes a pro's list of classics. no cowhide for me (shocking since i'm from texas!) but these things are all beauties.

my favorite and my best said...

agreed on all counts.
you have inspired me to do the opposite....as in top 10 design trends that suck a dick.

MFAMB - On pins and needles to see what your top ten dick picks are.

thank you a million times over for calling them "global textiles" instead of {gag} "ethnic"- it's a MAJOR PET PEEVE (also when everything is referred to as an "ikat" when only a few things really are..)

ita darling - That use of "ethnic" rubs me the wrong way too. An almost negative connotation of otherness.

Okay, this is my favorite post ever and I want more. I love you picking out your top photos, top interiors. I have quickly downloaded all images and realize I have most of them. But I love them so much I'll take 'em again. Perfection.

And Jenny, can't wait to see your suck-a-dick top ten!

Good post - thank you. I, too, am anxiously awaiting Jenny's list.

I love you for this post.

Agreed on all ten counts. I'm still working on the acquisition of a few of these, but with Susie's amazing craigslist finds, I'm sure to get there by year's end!

i like a touch of metal, the Fontana and a bit of the global. the rest seem old and 'decoratory', if you get what i mean.
serious - garden stools, no clue how that took off; cowhide, ditto above, screens, rarely successful in real life; lucite, for old ladies; stacks of books as design item, meh; Franck sofa, OK but iconic? meh; x bench, like but not essential.

perhaps you could elaborate on your choices in an endeavour to spread the joy. thnx.

Yum... the screen in the first picture is going on my *I WANT THAT NOW!* list.

YES. Yes to all. That first picture is amazing.

@decor muse- I believe the name of the post is "MY decorating top 10" I don't believe Madame Lampshade is making a universal proclamation, just posting her personal formula her own artful interior. You mustve mistaken this post for a "you're thoughts please" ... re read your comment and examine yourself because something might have crawled into your panties and died.

That came across a bit harsh- I'm commenting on my iphone, I have cramps and I'm being protective over bitchy comments because I don't want Mdme Lmpshd to quit blogging! PS Define "iconic" ( hello reality bites)

Magnificent post. Thoroughly enjoyed seeing what your top ten are Raina. I just can't get the cow hide thing, but must admit that its a gazillion times better than a zebra rug!

Love the lucite, metallic finishes and screens especially.

As for the stacks of design books, I have to put them somewhere - guilty of this also.

Ageed, with the addition of crusty old mirrors, a tuxedo sofa and vintage lighting!

If I did a post entitled: "My top 10 decorating classic design posts of Bloggers I adore" this post would top the list! Does this make sense? bit hungover...and don't know Ita...but thinking I need to! Also, hoping Jenny has posted by now...off to investigate both further!

No Problem La Raina! I got yer back!

Don't people know how to be constructive? (art school/design school may not have far reaching practical applications in the "real" world, but it is boot camp for thinking critically and being able to ask WHY, analyze HOW and then vocalize the reasoning behind the emotional response to aesthetics. Does that make sense?

Nice to meet you Zhush!

no offence taken ita darling, my post was not meant to be critical - rather i am interested in the reasons a professional designer includes selected items in a top ten list. consider it a roundabout way of requesting a pro to share the knowledge. which of course she may or may not choose to do. but i hoped la lampshade a generous soul.

Sorry I have been MIA -- taking a little break. Your posts have been HOT and I lurve this one to teeny tiny pieces. I agree with every single thing... except the cowhide. I want to like them (especially the white ones) because the shape is fab, but the texture is off putting to me. I really wish someone would flip these over and finish the suede side with some kind of slick, robust finish. I would be all over that shit like white on rice.

Tiina said...

question: how to clean cow hide? I'm considering white one in our home, but we are also considering pooping and puking kids quite soon... Anyone?
