Take a seat. Take a seat. Take a seat. Take a seat. Take a seat.

Repeat.

Don't *you* bring your own chair, lamp and rug to you book club meetings?

That reminds me... I need to book a hair appointment.

Too many chairs and rugs.

Sherry Norris said...

Interesting room. To me, none of the furniture placement makes sense and the rug arrangement seems like the
designer must have been smoking some really good crack prior to placing the rugs! ;-)

The rugs scattered everywhere need to go...then there is hope to pull these chairs into a conversation area!

Appletree said...

OK everyone, musical chairs, then cake and presents.

I would have to say no to the way the chairs and rugs are arranged. It's a gorgeous room---like the bones of it---but the placement of everything??? Very distracting.

What every person above said.

Cote Provence said...

Too many chairs, too many rugs, too much leather.... and then one huge lamp and a displaced coffee table??
a very awkward room, I should say

Minnie and Mickey were here.

Great stuff. Poor space planning. I think they need the hand of MamaCox.

that room could look so beautiful. but it doesn't. hate those wacky chairs with the mickey mouse ears.

first I thought "ahhh, yessss" then I clicked on the photo and though "what is up with those wierd chairs, the rugs are oddly placed and what is that in the corner ... a bear?" - so I'm goldilocks and this place just doesn't fit for me

Somehow you can tell that a man did this...

Some how it works - that yellow chair freaks me out.

The rugs have run amok and the chairs are plotting revolution.

Looks like the chairs didn't get pushed back in place after the yoga session.

Katharine Fuchs said...

This looks like an expensive hip chemo room minus the machines... If Paul Rudd was in this room on mushrooms he would FREAK at the different chair types. Yuck.

My thoughts - that they have done some serious photo shopping with the light. English homes don't have that much natural light.
Also the Mickey mouse chairs freak me out and I have a crush on the trumpet light.

I love all the chairs and rugs just not in the 'waiting room' formation. The only thing that scares me is the big furry thing in the left hand corner.
As for the light manipulation, I disagree, loads of houses in England have those huge widows and fantastic light especially if you're South facing.

I'm with Acanthus & Acorn...too spread out, perhaps? And the rugs look like a total after thought.

It's like they have all the right ingredients but misplaced the recipe for how to mix it all together, isn't it? The bay windows are beautiful, the chairs are funky, and the rugs are gorgeous but you could be in a yoga studio with all that open space. That said, this is definitely one of my preferred "Your thoughts please" posts. It could totally work with a staging and styling overhaul.

Bachelor pad, possibly in a "restored" victorian in san francisco, meaning contractor-grade/rental-grade renovations. landlord says they're not allowed to paint the walls and these guys have no plans to lose their security deposit. instead they buy hipster Mission art and get lazy hanging any so only a small fraction of the walls are accomplished. they got a sweet deal on those leather gaming chairs with built-in speakers and i bet there are some sweet british B&W speakers somewhere in that room. after all, those are the only substantial pieces of day-core that matter, right? standards of living, people. this is silicon valley money, and us young-gun stanford grads do it our way.

Let me first say that I have no design training and i rely on my instincts and common sense/practicality on furniture placement so there maybe some highfalutin design thing going on there that I don't get.
That being said....I am pointing and laughing.I will rescue the rug in the foreground it deserves better.

Im not loving it, but I can see why some people might.

Raina, I can only say that it's a shame what they did to this marvellous room full of light...

I do love a giggle .. and reading everyone's comments just cracked me up .. espc .. everybodyupagainstthewall!! (say it quick enough and you too will laugh). It's like my parents house when I was little - they had some sort of design-alergy and could only place furniture around the outside of the room. Now, for me, I can't put anything anywhere near the outside. This room makes me feel .. ummm .. like 12 again (-:

I woul d definitely have nightmares about those chairs eating me.

the room need that couch that's up against the wall in the mix, and remove some of those rugs.

Loving the room - nice tall ceilings, nice colour floor, divine windows, double doors.. All of that is fab.. The lamps are also wonderful.. but perhaps not together..
Don't get me started on the art..

...try as it might, the lonely coffee table seemed to repulse all the other furniture... "was it something i said?" it asked the shag rug, which was trying to creep up onto the couch.
