A few things I know

Desire to Inspire.

1. The rug or the pillows - never both. And don't knot drapes. EVER.

2. Applying Philosophy's Soul Owner foot cream to your hands will eliminate any and all cuticle issues. Just make sure you have no cuts or abrasions - the salicylic and glycolic acids will sting.

3. To avoid putting a hole in wallpaper when hanging artwork, carefully cut a small "V" or "T" with a sharp knife. Gently peel the flap(s) back and drive the nail. When you wish to move the artwork, the flap(s) can be glued back down.

4. The foam pads that keep blouses and skirts from slipping off hangers can be used to remove antiperspirant from clothing. Gently brush the area with the pad and the residue, which must be dry, will come off easily.

5. Bees, hornets, and yellow jackets loathe the scent of dryer sheets. Tuck a few around any outdoor area where you wish to entertain and your guests will be sting-free. WASPs have no idea what a dryer sheet is because the housekeeper does the laundry.

What things do you know, Dumplings?

WASPs know what dryer sheets are because we learned about them reading Martha Stewart Magazines. :)

I know that vacuum bb's are one of the best inventions ever. (personal favorite: Resto's Grapefruit Ginger) A handful in the bag of the Hoover, no more sweeper bag smell when you vacuum the floor.

Dear Raina, How absolutely fascinating all of this is. What very useful tips which I shall immediately pass on to T, my cook/housekeeper in Budapest, and to Mrs. N, my daily in London. Where is your source of all this information?

As for the suggestion of tying knots in the curtains of the drawing room, or any other room for that matter, I cannot think of anything more ghastly.

Hello to you and welcome to this deliciousness!

Yes, rug insipired rug pillows and tied drapes = ugly x 2!

Love the wallpaper/nail trick!!!

Painting a porch ceiling pale blue also keeps the birds and bees away. And, don't buy your kids a yellow plastic slide they're huge bug/bee magnets! Notice you rarely see them in public playgounds?!

Not a fan of that first pic at all.

As for dryer sheets, I don't think they even exist here in Aus.

That wallpaper tip is fantastic. I would never have thought to do that.

Acunthus and Acorn - Love the ceiling color tip!

Ampersand - Sandy, I couldn't find them in NZ when I lived there. Maybe dryer sheets are just a North American thing.

If you spill wine on a rug, then pour salt on it. Then you will have a bigger mess, aka pile of salt with wine on it. Then vacuum it up and apply some rug cleaner.

those cushions remind me of my great aunt. delightful woman, not known for her taste. she was mightily fond of rough woven and generously tasselled cushions.

also, a few drops of dishsoap on a grease stain before chucking in the laundry works better than any stain remover.

1. yes, agree to the knotting of the curtains.
2. LOVING the line about WASPS not knowing what a bounce sheet is. hahahahha....bwahahhahahha
