I showed remarkable restraint

I was just at my local SuperTarget (the spot where I'd like my ashes scattered) to check out the John Derian collection bowing today. It is the New York designer's second collaboration for the Bullseye, and it looks fantastic. The colors and patterns are beautifully rendered, and the serving pieces are made of the heaviest melamine I've ever handled.

I have a soft spot in my shopkeeper's heart for John Derian. Mine was the first store in Indianapolis to carry his pieces, more than ten years ago. Back then, he would personally sign each piece in gold ink. Derian has perfect penmanship.

After standing in front of the displays long enough to appear either simple-minded or plotting a five-finger discount, I settled on the Feather Tray. The Flatware Appetizer Plate and the Honeycomb Tray are adorable and may sing their siren song for my return.

Has anyone else perused/purchased anything from the new John Derian for Target collection?

I ordered the feather tray and the set 8 app plates with the knives, forks, and spoons on them. No restraint whatsoever ha ha, but the stuff is so cheap.

I just was in his store in Ptown. A wonderful store stocked to the brim with his designs, plus lots of other designers mixed in. The store is in a very tiny garage space, probably only abot 300 sq ft max.....

I might just have to sneak the 'ol Visa out for one of these - love that flatware tray.

I was at my local Target by quarter to 8 this morning. Got the animal/alphabet serving tray (one of only 2 in the store), 5 melamine plant/leaf dinner plates for the beach house (2 different patterns), 2 ceramic coffee mugs (the honeycomb and the moths, the only 3 moth fabric-covered media storage bins in the store (gonna use them for lingerie) and a bunch of paper products (the only 2 label-pattern accordian files, 2 label-pattern large notebooks, a binder and one animal/alphabet small notebook). A couple of the paper products were bought as gifts. The only thing I saw online that I didn't see in stores was the animal/alphabet wastepaper basket. Had it been in the store I might have picked it up too, but I think I'm Derianed-out for the moment. Overall I thought it was a good quality collaboration. Surprised by how few items there were though and glad I got there first thing.

i did not see said cute tray but a whole lot of ugly and cheap looking desk accessories.
i will have to go back.
mostly i just thought the colorways were horrible. that and the cheap factor. i wouldn't have guessed in a million years that they were john derian.
i need to look online to see what the total offerings are.

Could you please use your influence and get someone, anyone to rev up Target in Australia. We never get anything this good!

Local Target really disappointed me. I got the apple plates, but there weren't any others. The tiny plates were too small for much besides coasters, and the paper things all looked sot of dull and grayed out. I guess I will save my pesos for the real stuff, but the apple plates will be great hitting my stone floors!

Sandy - Hello and welcome! I have four Targets within 20 minutes of my house, and none of them ever has the special collections out on time.

Quick question: Are the trays white on the backside and the upper lip? or are they the same pattern/color as the front? thx J.

Jennifer - There is no feather pattern on the back. There is a "John Derian for Target" logo embossed on the back, but it has no color. Hope that helps!

I am not sure about the toxity of these items - production is surely not environmental friendly and it is highly questionable to distribute this kind of stuff for food etc. I would never buy such things...
