Introducing Elle Decor's new Editor

Michael Boodro has recently taken over the reins of Elle Decor, replacing long-time Editor-in-Chief Margaret Russell. 1st Dibs interviewed Boodro about his new role.

When asked about filling the (elegant) shoes of such a successful editor as Russell, Boodro responded: "Nothing is broken around here and so my mission is to keep delivering a fabulously glossy shelter magazine that inspires people. Part of this task is to keep things fresh and lively: that means hopefully featuring new talent, not just designers' work but photographers' and all the people who work behind the scenes, as well."

Boodro also spoke about Elle Decor's new partnership with 1st Dibs - the LookBook. ED's inspiration gallery has been revamped so that not only are room photos are larger and easier to search, but also "items will be shoppable, through product tags from participating dealers and showrooms." Additional links will lead readers to "like-minded pieces that capture the spirit of the room." Over 20,000 items have already been linked to 1st Dibs dealers.

Asked to compare Elle Decor to shelter magazine rivals Architectural Digest and House Beautiful, Boodro said: "We are the one that celebrates personal style. It's not just about the room but the people inside it."

Describing what it takes to get a home published in Elle Decor, Boodro explained: "It's when you want to look again. That extra level of surprise. It should never say anything all at once."

Sneak peeks of the November 2010 issue:

Many thanks to the blonde bubbly beautiful Susie of Eye Spy for sending me the link to this article!

Sounds like some exciting new things happening while retaining the essential flavour of Elle Decor. Thanks for the sneak peek pics of the Nov issue as well as your previous post featuring pics from the Oct issue.

I've got some great issues to look forward to as snail mail copies of Sep issue only just became available here yesterday!

I look forward to seeing his work. Although from what I understand, it will probably be several months at least before we see it, because they work so far in advance, right?

Can't wait to see what he has up his sleeve. And Mark, buddy, if you are reading please work on the lag time for shipping subscriptions. It positively kills me to see the new issue in the grocery check out before I see it in my mailbox! :-(

Oops! How embarrassing! That should be Michael, of course!

TMoSG - Yes, typically it can be 3-12 months after a shoot that a home appears in a shelter mag. From what I understand, the Jan-Feb issue of Elle Decor will be the first with Boodro's full imprint.

Goddamnit! I know I've been under a rock lately, but this is rather large news!?? Hoping he might inject a little bit of something special. There's room for it, wouldn't you say?
