What I've been up to today

Hi ya, Dumplings! Today, I've been running around town picking up materials for our upcoming master bath remodel. I kicked things off by duct taping the huge mirror behind the bathtub.

This weekend, LB will be taking a sledgehammer to it and then he'll tear the tile out of the shower. I'm going to have him do it in a hard hat, a tool belt and very little else. Rrrrowr!

I also picked up a few gallons of paint - Benny Moore's "Navajo White." Because I don't have enough house projects going on, I've decided to start painting our family room.

As you can see, it's going to take a while as well as some major scaffolding. Right now, the wall color is a very weird peachy nougat that bugs the hell out of me each and every day. We do have furniture in there, but it's being replaced next year. You'll see it in a future Before & After.

I might just leave the ceiling to the professionals. And, yep, that's about 1.2 acres of mirror wrapping our patio doors. Boom-chicka-wah-wah!

Also, my pal Jennycakes has a superfab conversation going on over her blog My Favorite and My Best. She wants to know what design trends you're sick to death of. JC will be doing a follow-up post later in the week. Let her know what trends you'd like to see burn in a pit of fire!

Dear Raina, Yes, I can detect more than a hint of peach about the 'Family Room' and, I must say, that I am relieved that it is to go. If I might be so bold, and make the teeniest of suggestions, I really do feel that your very grand French windows could be referred to as such since 'patio doors' does not do them justice.

Love Navajo White. I used it years ago. Changed color throughout the day with the movement of light. It's really just the palest ghost of taupe. And you know I love some taupe.

Love navajo white....it is my go to trim color....this is the third house of mine I've used it in. Look forward to following along with your progress.

I keep forgetting how truly awesome that house of yours is... thanks for crushing my house hunting dreams. You know I'll never find anything that good in Austin.

ps: duct taping mirrors before demo = genius (or common sense? hard for me to separate the two these days)

Raina darling, you are crazier than I am! We are also doing 2 projects simultaneously, but one is not a bathroom!!! Mojitos on me!

MFAMB - She does ride a little scooter thing around it.

Susie @ Maddie's Nest - Hello and welcome to this deliciousness!

Erin - I can't take credit for that little tip. I found on the interwebs.

Acanthus and Acorn - I will most definitely take you up on that!

Even with all of your projects, once you are done you will have one of the coolest houses I have seen! Was it built by a builder? The house is so lucky to have YOU as the owner!

Raina Cox said...

Leigh - I'm not sure who built our house. We're the third owners and it is nearly 40 years old.

Your home is incredible! ( and ) I forgot to say yesterday.. what an ass. Seriously, get over yourself. Did you want to smack him?

Sarah - Thank you! As for Monsieur Asshat, I found him intriguing in an almost Margaret Mead kind of way. The egotistical decorator is his natural habitat.

That living room! Just the size and shape...holy crap!

I'm a big fan of Navajo White. It's so creamy with a hint of butter. Without being butter, thank God.

Can't wait to see what you do.

I hope you have thoroughly documented your house in the 'before' state because it looks all kinds of amazing. Can't wait to see the 'afters,' too, but I could live very easily as is.

oooooohhh your not getting rid of the mirror around the patio doors are you? I love mirrored crap if I could I'd mirror my face!

Raina Cox said...

Bri - Oh no, the mirrors are staying. I very much love a louche 70s look.

Also, hello and welcome to this deliciousness!

Topaz - If you click on the Barbie Dream House tag and go back to summer of last year, you will see photos of our house when we bought it. We're remodeling it top to bottom. My daughter's room is done, and we've turned the dining room into a living room.

Raina, I just went all the way back to your first posts about the dream house. Love the place! You have one of the greatest luxuries of all: space.

Looking forward to seeing how everything evolves. And checking out some of your favorite local resources, as I'm in the Denver area, too.
