I just saved you $119.97

Jonathan Adler's Happy Chic collection for the Home Shopping Network debuts today. All in all, the pieces are cheap-looking and over-priced. Case in point, the cleverly-named Ceramic Table Lamp, above. 26 1/4" tall, three-way switch, and priced at $149.95.

This Hampton Bay ceramic table lamp is available at The Home Depot. 25" tall, three-way switch, and priced at $29.98.

Here is the Hampton Bay lamp in my daughter's bedroom.

And I just saved you $119.97.

Dear Raina, This can be so often the case. It certainly pays to look around. In the UK, British Home Stores has long been renowned for selling very good quality lighting at inexpensive prices. At the end of the day, it is how one uses things and their context which matters and makes all the difference.

Damn 30 dollars for a lamp and shade that's cheaper than Mr. Timmy's food!

Great post Raina - and I sooo agree to what you are saying. One need not always go on the hunt for names to realize great ideas for interiors. Isn't it a wonderful challenge to use one's brains and inspiration instead of pure consuming?

Ha!
Back at the start of the JA craze, I snagged a similar-looking gourd lamp at Tarjay for a song.
It's still in use and I'm still pleased.

I honestly prefer the one you have in your daughter's room to the genuine JA article.

Of course part of the infatuation could be that spectacular wallpaper, the West Elm table that got away -- from me :( -- or the gorgeous flounce of that ruffled curtain panel.

See, all these things could really be upping the appeal of the 'Pot lamp. I'd say, forgo the original and go for the faux.

TTFN, Alcira

I've never been one of those who needs the brand to buy something. I get pretty excited when I find a deal, and this lamp is great! I'll have to shop Home Depot a little closer

Thanks for the tip (although I cannot avail myself of it, given the distance to the nearest Home Depot store and all). Have been meaning to say though, your daughter's room is absolutely divine. I love it. She must be happy there... xoxo

I have new reasons to disdain Adler almost all the time.

Home Depot is really doing some rockin stuff these days. Leave the overpriced stuff for someone else! Swing by and check out my chairs, would love you to see them. Crap photos, but I've been slammed these days. Love your daughters bedroom!

A no-brainer I'd say. And while I'm at it, I have to admit, I'm still jealous of The Pea's room. So pretty.

I love that Home Depot lamp. I'm all for the power-to-the-people cheaper versions. Yes!

Raina, you're about the only blogger around with the guts to do a post like this one. So many bloggers do nothing more than regurgitate press releases or post pics with little or no input, all the while trumpeting how "stylish" they are (with the "young" part being debatable).

Never change, Raina, and thanks for your work here.

Isn't Pea a lucky girl! The wallpaper and frilly drape are a wonderful tease . . . have you shown this completed room, Raina? Looks scrumptious.

Duh . . . click on the link Chris, yes, the word bedroom. . . in orange type . . . that's a good boy.

Cashon & Co - Oh yeah, I'm an insomniac. But I do find the best blog material in the wee hours of the morning.
