On a clear day you can see forever

Desire to Inspire.

Dumplings, what do you think of a kitchen where nearly every surface is shiny? Dazzling or a nightmarish never-ending cleaning chore?

I'll pass. The thought alone, of little finger prints and grease splatters all over those slick surfaces would be enough to do me in. OCD all the way.

I don't mind shiny surfaces, but then again, I don't have kids.

That pic is migraine inducing.

Me likey shiny but in small doses.

Whoa. That looks like a bar. It would be a cool bar or restaurant.

Dear Raina, I NEVER think of kitchens....shiny or otherwise. Life is too short.

Definitely a kitchen for those who do take out all the time!

I made a rather involved chili recipe last night, ease of cleaning is important.

I guess it works if you have hired help

I couldn't do it... but I love the look.

In my opinion if you just eliminate one shiny element, maybe the cabinets, it works and is beautiful. Also, remember polished surfaces, particularly counters tend to be less porous than honed or matte finishes which make them actually easier to clean and more stain resistant.

For those whose kitchens are just show pieces and not used...go for it. Real life families..Night. Mare.

Feels too much like a fun house, and I don't need to see myself (especially in the am) that much.

I love the backsplash, but no way would I ever have all that shiny in near proximity to Ike's greasy little nubs.

If all I ever made at home was a gin and tonic, I would love that kitchen.

At least as photographed, no. It's far too "Remember when we lived on the Lower East Side and thought we were so awesome when we papered the whole apartment in tin foil?"-meets-the-suburbs.

I agree with David. Ease of cleaning. Put a big ol' drain in the floor in the middle of this room and we're good to go.

I kind of love the backsplash, but I would have gone with matte/satin wood for the cabinets. Seeing the legs of their Saarinen dining set reflected in the cabinets is throwing it off.

I dig it. The mirrored tiles, that is. The combination is a little overbearing. Have a lovely weekend and a happy Halloween, my friend!

Kinda reminds me of my dining room and the bar that inspired it... at the restaurant quattro....I purposely blew up my bricks so that it wouldnt be too dizzying.

I think it would make my head hurt if I turned on the lights at night. Actually it makes my head hurt just looking at the photo.

I like that back splash but the glossy cabinets kind of push it over the edge. Besides, all those reflected light sources would give me a seizure.

Oh and now I have Barbra running through my head. Thanks.

I actually really loved this but more for the backsplash than the super slick cabinetry.
Shiny, happy, hardcore, luxe...I'll take the tiles, you can have the lacquer.

i don't think i would ever have silver or mirrored subway tiles (whatever those are) but bc i think that shit is major euro trash in the ghetto. but the rest is rull purty. in fact i wish i knew what every surface is made of. is it concrete on the counters? and lacquered wood? i'll bet in person though all of it is stunning.

Kate said...

I love it all, I want it and I'm guessing if I can afford to have it, then i can also afford to have someone else clean it for me.

Off to get a lottery ticket.

Naomi@ThirteenandSouth said...

what is that thing in the middle? Is that a hood? If so its all wrong for the space.

The subway glass doesn't bother me, but I'd much rather see antique glass. Seems a tad more practical too.

I don't even have kids, but I don't think I could keep that clean for five minutes!

forget the cleaning, and the insanity and vertigo inducing reflections and shimmer....what about the sound? What does it sound like when you drop a teacup in that room?

verification word: bidesilla. A reality show about really wacked out old ladies who play bridge?

Love it from the counter tops on down...as much as I LOVE a shiny disco ball inspired anything...just not really feeling this one. But I would want to party with the homeowners.

love shiny. shiny + a cleaning lady = happy.

prefer straight mirror though, not so sure about hte tiles.

it just makes me think of a very fancy vet's office - too sterile for me and Marcel would have a heart attack

snicker.

years and years ago i had to put my vote in on a work desk that was being designed for a gallery. i was gaga for polished steel (is that the term? i am blanking on it), and begged to get that surface put on the main gallery desk. WHAT A NIGHTMARE. fingerprints and scratches GALORE! within the first week! argh! and this shiny shit could cause a seizure!
