meh.
i love the tables and that gilded palm tree thing but there's not enough contrast between the walls, sofas and floor for me. and i can usually go for monochromatic no problem but something about this just reads dullsville.
what are your thoughts raina?

Wow! I love the fact that you can get a shoe shine while hanging out in your living room! ;) M.

I wish the artwork was stronger. I personally prefer rooms to have some masculine elements in them.

I had a living room in these colors in the 80's and early 90's.
So, it is a bit hard for me to love it!

See now this tree I don't like so much...screams asian import strip mall to me. Now I'm going to have to dig around in your archives girlfriend because I swear we've seen this room before in a slightly different version or a very similar imposter. The sofas and the tables have potential, but I want to chop those pillow to bits and the rest is just a snooze.

Hmmm. I love orchid but this I don't love! Why? Not sure but maybe it's too generic. Will study it more & report back. Hope you have a great week.

It reminds me of a department store's ladies room decore from the early 90's.

nkp - HOLY SHIT! You're right! I've posted this room before as a YTP but from a different angle.

I must have really been bothered by it to post it twice.

Duumplings - You have my most sincere apologies. I will endeavor to bring you a SUPER SPECTACULAR "Your Thoughts Please" next week.

The freaky little fuzzy bit by the coffee table has got to go. All of the pieces would work well in other contexts. I love the shape of the sofas, but they are ghastly with these floors and walls. I like the art well enough, but its totally lost against the pastel background. The gilded palm is a little Dr. Suessish for this interior. I like the throw pillows and the coffee tables... but the whole thing is just bleh.

It reads Miami Vice to me.

Agree with MLHP, but mixed with a little Golden Girls.

Am I crazy or did we look at this rom already?

Raina Cox said...

SKetch 42 - Nope, you're perfectly sane. I did post this room a few weeks ago. See apology above.

This seriously looks exactly like my memory of my baby sitter's house in the 80s... Costa Rican wife of a Cuban with a poodle they named 'Soochi', after 'a Japanese food they ate once'.

Some good pieces. Horrible room. And that Nelya has one sharp eye.

It's a golden girls la quinta... but there's stil something about it I like. I think it's that brass tree. Yes, that tree can come home with me.

Mary @ RoomPolish said...

how shall I say.... a little 80s for me. too much shell pink and teal, which has always reminded me of hospitals and care homes. (?!) One the upside...the coffee tables I could work with...perhaps. in the right setting.

Bad 80's revival. Mauvey/Pink..yuck. As said above..Golden Girls meets Miami Vice. Perfect!

I think the room is ok - just doesnt look so good pictured.
However, I still dont like the sheep thing & the golden palm doesnt make my bit tingle either.

i didn't recognize it per se... but i did notice that you have featured quite a few rooms with metal foliage of one variety or another.. i think you have a love hate situation with metal palms... hahah. they make me uncomfortabl, but like ben stiller's humor- that isn't always a bad thing.

Ha- I do the same thing... I cant remember what I post and what I dont post!

The color palette is nice but the wall-to-wall has to go and there are several scary items in that room.

My thoughts? This one's too easy: NOOOOOO.

Ha! I knew we'd discussed this awhile back -- only from a different angle.
Still, it has some stuff going for it. The photog, for one, the brass and pink and fur are also doing a little something for me.
I think everyone agreed the carpet had to go though.

Cashon&Co said...

i'm gong against the grain here and saying i like this room, with three minor changes.

1. take out the carpet and put in a ebonized floor or limestone
2. update the shape of the cushions on the loveseats, and maybe even reupholster the cushions in a softer shade and leave the frame as is
3. put some kind of glamorous murano sconces on either side of that painting on the back wall

there. *phew. NOW i love it.

Cashon & Co - I agree with everything you said.
