Desirous

Have you ever been so desirous of something decorative that it occupies your every waking thought? Silly me. Of course you have or you wouldn't be reading this blog.

Well, I am crazypants in love with this vintage Air Afrique travel poster from Gallerie Montmartre in Australia. CRAZYPANTS, I tell you. Measuring 3' x 5', it's priced at about US$1600. BUT...

#1 I have no place for it.

#2 It's not in the budget. Not even close.

I'm also headoverheels for this tall tole lamp from Stray Dog Imports:

Which you may remember from this classic Domino photo:

Again, sadly, I have no place for it in my house. Seriously, not anywhere.

Dumplings, what have you wanted for your house that was kiboshed by either space or budgetary constraints?

All the time I want something that I really don't have a need for or can afford, but we can all have a wish list can't we?

Cherner chairs - I could fit two in if I got rid of a small sofa but I couldn't afford one, let alone two. Anyway, your house is huge -surely you could find a little spot for that lamp? Happy Holidays.

Juliab - I have the room, there's just not a spot where it would make sense. :(

How much space do I have to answer those questions? Or would you just like the top 100 rugs lamps chairs mirrors and paintings I've craved or that got away?

In other news I had a marvelous French travel poster, smaller, very like the Afrique you crave, c. 1955. Shoulda been worth about 500. Had it in stock forever for 150. Finally sold it on ebay for 90, the same week a New York Gallery was offering one for 850. Go figure.

I am adding that lamp to the list...although I'd like it best as a pair...on a long rustic table (that I no longer own)

Um, Pea's room? New bathroom? For the lamp I mean.
It was actually on either Gilt or OKL a while ago, not that this information helps you any. That poster, by the way, is fabulous, so you, and I KNOW you could find a spot for it (money matters aside, of course).

As for me, the list would be far too long. Space is always less of an issue, somehow I would make it work and my style is so much a mish mash of everything I love, but budget, damn those budgetary constraints!

I should rectify... I do have the money, but I don't have the lack of ethics to pay 3 grand for a bloody chair.

Ugh, what furnishing category hasn't seen multiple items kiboshed by budgetary constraints...

It happens all the time for me too. I need about 3 or 4 different houses just to accommodate my different style desires! I'm a bit schizo I'm afraid. But it's the dreaming about things we want that keeps us moving forward!

Heated towel bars and a really fancy pants closet system...sigh...

Love all the Stray Dog Designs, especially the beautiful sprouting-blooms floor lamps. Understanding that I am nothing but grateful for all that I *do* have, I still wouldn't turn down a Black AmEx with no credit limit and use it for good design, not evil.

Off the top of my head...a plush George Smith sofa, something to conceal my husband's AV addiction, a commercial fridge with a clear door and a set of lovingly restored Heywood Wakefield bedroom furniture. I forgot art. We'll get to that later. Of course, before I spend this imaginary money, I should probably add to the list another not-happening-right-now item: some LA real estate. Alas.

I have always wanted a big fat Murano Chandelier - the more stuff hanging off it the merrier but....
its not only $$$ stopping me - I have low ceilings and I don't fancy walking around it ! LOL

I guess everything I want gets Kiboshed by budget constraints since we're broke and really need any spare money to remodel our crappy master bath. The thing I want the most though is a rug from Madeleine Weinrib!

Um, now I want that Air Afrique poster!

We went to Africa on our honeymoon...so it would be perfect in our nursery.

Oh - we don't have a baby yet (or even one on the way) but I have BIG plans!

Sigh.

Erika - I would love to see it in a nursery! You should totally raid non-existent Jr.'s non-existent college fund to pay for it.
