Now I do not know too much about interior design, but I know what I like.

And it is not this.

Get rid of everything on the pink wall except the mirror, jettison the standard lamp and that silly little chair next to it...then I think it would be a nice place to hang out :)

It looks like Mamma Bearenstein Bear is on HRT.

Ah....NO....but I smiled!

Tiny bit too cluttered for me. Ditto Kerry's comment and there seems to be one too many vases. You need to be able to see who you're having coffee with :)

I do like that mirror but ..... give the other stuff to someone you hate! LOL

H to the IDEOUS!!

Too many flowers, too much stuff, and I can see a Keep calm poster out of the corner of my eye....

Welcome to the freakin' year of honeysuckle, thankyouverymuch. Accent on the suck...

Mmmmmmmmmmm love it- sorry folks!

Hmm, looks like someone is packing to go to Brimfield!

Ailie said...

It's a bit twee and it's too pink and too cluttered and it has one of those damned 'Keep Calm' posters, and it's really not to my taste, but there's a ramshackle warmth to the room that's kind of charming.

It looks like a nice place to have a cup of tea and a slice of cake.

oh, it's too early in the morning to be witty. But it is definitely time to retire shabby chic.

I dunno... Whatever? Is that a good response?

I would love to visit an eclectic aunt here and have drinks. She would tell me crazy stories and I would remind her to take her medication.

Shabby Chic gone awry...as if it couldn't get any worse.

Meh....cluttery in a sort of dowdy-butterfly-lives-here way. Did you notice the "Keep Calm" snippet top right?

It took me a few minutes to find something I like about this photo. Best I could come up with is the gladiolas, everything else, yuck.

MUCH too much for my more "minimalist"ish taste, but...whatever.

And as if all that dreck weren't enough, there's a gallery wall for "balance" on the opposite side of the room.

With the removal of the floor lamp and strangely low arm chair I might find this set up quite charming in my (imaginary) english tea room.

I wish I had said what @Mrs BC and @Japanese Trash just said. Amen!!

Teri said...

No. just no.

What's with the heads next to the mirror? And, all the clutter on the mantel looks like they had a lie of left over things and just placed them there.

I am in agreement with those that like the mirror.

Sugar and Spice and all things sickly.

I am going to take this opportunity to show you possibly the most repellent and pointless piece of old shit ever to be put into production. Here it is ta da:

http://matrushka.co.uk/furniture/

I know you will treat it with the contempt it deserves.

My Interior Life said...

Sometimes I just don't get British style. This is one of those times.

Raina Cox said...

helent - I'm speechless. And that is rarely the case.

helent said...

I know just what you mean.

I have tried to pity it, to ignore it but it is just so contemptible that I could not let it pass without sharing it with you. The added bonus is that it is obviously so hideously expensive that the price just cannot be found. The only thing that could possibly worse than this would be this with Mr Kate Spade naked atop it.

Barbara Cartwright would be best pleased.

I, however, agree with the rest of us-no thank you.

After seeing all these bits together I need therapy!
Scale the room right back and leave the chairs, table and lovely cabinet doors and I'll be ok. Though may have to repaint the mantle wall.. and perhaps put in new floors.. :)

Dusty rose? Just say no!

Flo said...

The pine cupboard doors are so beautiful, their scale seems enormous.

The floor is awful.

Well, ok.

Pick up the phone and call your favorite charity and have their pick-up van come and take everything away except the table and the two stripped wood dining chairs, everything comes down off the walls and surfaces and floor and is donated. Order a seagrass rug big enough to cover all that tile -- wall to wall, no binding. Before the rug arrives, paint the walls white, leave the cupboards natural as they are.

While thats getting done, I'll think of something chaste for a mantel/surround of some sort, those white bricks are as cold as that white tile floor.

Call me when the walls and floor are covered, we'll go on to the next phase after the prior owner's color dissonance has been removed, we'll bring in our own colors and start over.

Nuha Sofiyan said...

Overkill...that lampshade is hideous and the wall has too much clutter...remove those and maybe then it'll look a little better

Robin - That is SPOT ON.

ok, if you squint to ignore the little faces (?) and sconeses around the mirror (mirror = pretty fab), you (in this case, I) can almost love this. I'm not sure if this is a good interpretation of the idea, but I'm loving purple/pink/white/natural theme. And brick fireplace (?) is a nice way to bring in some relief from overstuffiness of everything else. On and the floor lamp should go as well. It can almost be French country... if you ignore all the staging of this room.

don't hate me or throw rotten tomatoes at me, I just don't hate it :)

Cyndia said...

At first glance, I kind of liked it, until I looked closer. No to all the clutter, the leaning tower of lamp, and the Baby Bear chair. A different shade of pink and much less clutter would do this proud. And now I'm guffawing at the Umbridge reference - are we sure those aren't meowing kitties on the wall surounding the mirror?
