What I'm wondering about today

1.  Why is the borne in this photo so low?

2.  Why is everything in Z Gallerie so shiny?

3.  Why is New York City insisting on cold weather next week even though my trip wardrobe is decidedly spring-ish?

4.  Why does every third blogger think she has the where-with-all to be a magazine editor?  (The people who started it all with Lonny have, you know, actual magazine experience.)

5.  If a Real Housewife of [insert favorite city] cries/pouts/has a meltdown without a camera around, did the incident really happen?

6.  Why won't my new dog do Businesses #1 and #2 in the same outing?

P.S.  Check in tomorrow for a link to this week's Moonlighting post for Curbed National!

Is that the February Elle Decor? I'm seriously rethinking my subscription!
Have a great time at NYC, Raina.

Belly - Oh no, Honey - that photo is from 1992. Sorry to have frightened you. ;)

Questions, questions , questions- and I have no answers... sorry darling ! the only one I can answer is question nr 6 about your dog...
you've only just got the poor mite..and you got to get to know each other..
I had my two pooches have " accidents " all over the house, but did a week of " cage-training" with them and they are now... really really well house-trained and do nr 1 and nr 2 whenever we go out on command ( well- almost ).....
so that might be the way to go...

You did it, Ms. Cox! FINALLY a "Subscribe via email" button! Huzzah!

Now I won't have to miss a morsel of your fine tuned wit & wisdom.

Answer to Questions:

1. Because that was considered "trendy" in some photography circles in the late 80s.

2. Because the Mall Going Masses like everything NEW! (I, sadly am a card carrying member of this group).

3. NYC isn't that bad...it just likes to be difficult, because it can.

4. Agreed. And thank you! [Ex-Fashion Editor makes snotty face].

5. No.

6. It's a Doggy conspiracy. They do it to wind you up.

Uh oh...now that I think about it, you've been conspicuously mum about yesterday's ezine launch. Sorry, I'm all happy clapper about that one, but am dying for you to show me the error of my ways.

Raina- Pheww, what a scare;) with the latest offerings, a gal has got to rely
on SOME magazines. Hope you have an incredible time in NY!

MaxK - Welcome, my Darling!

Alison - Don't you dare apologize for what makes you happy. Opinions are like.. well, you know.

Questions we all want answered. There were two new e-magazines that came out yesterday. I was unimpressed with either. And actually thought...is this expected now? You not only have a blog but you put together a magazine with your friends?

About the Housewives...no the incident didn't really happen unless a camera was around even if the police were called.

Perhaps your dog will get it's act together. But one of mine - Violet often does them on separate outings. She likes to go out and if she divides it into two trips then....she gets to go out more. Funny how she wants to go out every two hours but if its raining...she can wait 12.

Loving your articles on Curbed!

1. Because the homeowner is 4’11”.
2. Because they got a good deal on shiny metal/plastic/fabric/whatever.
3. Because NYC knows you’re on your way.
4. Amen! I guess they figure if they can write a grammatically incorrect sentence and post a few pictures on a blog, they’ve got what it takes to be a magazine editor.
5. Only in their imagination.
6. Why should he/she?

All reasonable questions - none of which I have the answer to. And you can tell by how I ended that last sentence with a preposition that the world should not worry about me launching my own e-zine. The commenter with the cage suggestion was a good one - works like a charm! Safe travels!

I think this is one of the chicest rooms ever!

What on earth is a "borne" ?

Raina Cox said...

Anonymous - It's the 3-sided seating piece in the middle of the room.

Lady, you best be bringin'yer snow boots with you to NYC. We just got some and will be getting more Tues/Wed. FUN TIMES.

Anon, thanks for clearing that one up!
Raina, I had absolutely no clue what you were talking about for a minute there.
And yes, it appears that Alison and I desperately need to be skooled in the etiquette of ezine happy clapping -- and when to refrain from it ;)

goddam, i've missed you! this made every withdrawal symptom of not being able to log onto my computer for almost two months worth it - i feel like this post has encapsulated everything i love about you, rockin raina...btw, if a husband is deep in a forest and thinks a thought, is it still wrong??? ha! would love to claim this little joke as my own, alas, i heard it on the radio and it still makes me smile...x

Raina Cox said...

Nita - Thanks so much for that and for the lovely comment you left a few days ago on the Adler interview.

Shelley - Welcome back, Beautiful! And I hope your hubs is completely out of the woods with his recovery.

have kinda wondered a lot of the same stuff recently. spooky.

Bri@Meyouandawiener said...

2. Because Pier 1 Imports is so dull.

4. bahahaahah

6. Dogs like to make our lives as complicated as possible that's their way of love. Just treat the hell of him every time he goes poo. Even Timmy goes out twice to do his business luckily we have a fenced in yard so I just let him out. I'm guessing yall don't..?

Amy said...

Sounds like a little bit of jealousy. Who needs experience to try something new? Lonny may have an experienced staff, but to the average person both ezines look professional.

hush said...

#4 - Because that New Orleans woman who paints black and white squiggles on canvas and charges people for it needs more business. And the people who paid her need validation that their purchases were in good taste.

#6 - Because they are so cute they can get away with it.

Raina Cox said...

Amy - No jealously. Trust. In related news, I feel like opening a dental practice today. You can be my first patient!

Topaz said...

#4: Links?

#6: Because he has now trained you to take him out twice instead of just once.

What exciting things do you have planned for new York?

The Designophile said...

I was wondering when someone was gonna say something like you did in #4. Hahaha! Love it.

Anonymous said...

Thank you, HUSH (above)...you're referring to the artist Amanda Tally. Listen, her work is fine, I like it...but it's not an exhibition of trained talent. And it's also not some outside-of-the-box art that feels fresh. It's squiggles, and the squiggles are then painted in pastels.
But I do see it in every e-magazine, and on blogs. Just not so much in the printed mags...so I do wonder why her work is mostly seen on the net.
Not trying to bash, but I see it everywhere.

Katie Company said...

#4 BAAHHAHAHAA!!!! Seriously. I would like to know the answer to this question. How about we put some of these e-zines into PRINT.

@ question #4:

....I too need to know this information. There's been a proliferation of bloggers cum magazine editors-in-chief. What gives???

Raina Cox said...

Katie Company - Hello to you and welcome to this deliciousness!

MaxK said...

Oh...the Borne is the circular sofa! I thought you were referring the angle of the photograph (which looks suspiciously like someone got himself up a ladder). A common practice back then.

[blushes madly].

THANK YOU, raina, for asking yourself question number four, and for making me feel like i am not alone in asking myself the exact same thing. the grammatical incorrectness/amateurish writing of it all is what really gets me. HIRE A COPY EDITOR, people!

(deep breath in, deep breath out.)

:)

erin@designcrisis said...

I am in sweet love with that room. I am also a little worried that it's from 1992... hmmm.

And I'm pretty tired of the fake art (f'art) and bad writing (the hire a copy editor comment is spot on!) popping up in the ezines, but I still like pretty pictures, so there's that.

6. At least he is doing them on outings. Ours still does #2 while on innings.
Yes, I know that is a baseball term and does not actually refer to being inside the house, but I'm going with it anyway.

Design Junkie said...

Question I'm asking myself is why every 3rd person who decorated a house and reads a lot of magazines thinks they can write a blog - it's way so much harder than I thought. I'm muddling thru that and thinking anyone who can even get an ezine out there is super dope. Even as I long for the good ol' days of stacks of beautifully done glossies.

Design Junkie said...

Correction - I'm trying to decorate a house. It won't get done.
