A bridge too far for this gal.
I'm thinking that it's the complete antithesis of your header title.

apologies, rockin raina, i know that you are after well-considered and thoughtful comments, but 'bloody hideous' is what comes straight to mind. i am trying to imagine how this room would be used...everything about it sets my teeth on edge, it's cramped, there's no flow...by the time i noticed the mannequin (or whatever it is) in the table....'bloody hideous'...x

oh, and the art is hung much too high! x

That is really fucking disturbing.
I cant give you anything considered or well mannered.
Sorry.
You know its gotta be bad if I'm sweary.

Dear Raina - you should tell them to feed the poor girl in the box - she looks like starving.....

DeLinda said...

unfortunate money was wasted on this

This is the latest in time-out spaces for misbehaving children. Someone set the poor girl free. I'm sure she learned her lesson.

He's a freak. M.

Pardon me, she's a freak. Just read the article and it's even more disturbing. Live mice nibbling at the girl? way too much for me. M.

The room itself, I like. I have a thing for pseudo-orangerie/tearoom deals with cheery chinoiserie and fantasy touches.
The silicone girl entombed however, just doesn't jive with this mama. Then when I read about the mice, I was thoroughly-creeped.
Teacups or nymphemburg in the case would've been much appreciated, rubber babies, not so much.
Cheers, Alcira

It took me a minute to notice the glass sculpture of vibrators on that table. And the girl being nibbled on by live mice? Disturbing.

Blue Piranha said...

Ha! I didn't notice the glass sculpture until it was pointed out. I find that rather cheeky and fun. But the girl in the case is just too creepy for me.

The rest of the room makes no sense to me - too many mismatched fabrics, the trees? Why? Nothing feels cohesive.

How to explain the glass dildos to the 7 year old that lives there? No really, how? In case I'm ever discovered...

looks like the first-class ladies' waiting room at Delhi train station circa 1937

doesn't it?

R...I don't know whether it's the contrarian in me or not (I am the black sheep in my family) but I like it. Having been to the NYmag site, I find the entire (shown) space an artist's delight. I couldn't live there...but you could forward my address to her for any future party invitations....k

I'm with Kate, except I have no problem getting sweary.
Seriously, this is just fucked up. The child, silicone or not, laying prone with live mice running amuck. It's disgusting and jarringly disturbing. I can't even focus on the rest of the room.

I think that the magician hired to saw her in half got lost.

This room is special, as in, "Eat the Paste" special!

Nita {ModVintageLife} said...

I appreciate that the homeowner is trying to make this an artistic space but its just creepy. I can't get past the caged girl being eaten by mice. It's like its the home of a serial killer that likes to decorate. The glass dildos....come on! The whole place is just in such bad taste like the owner is trying to show how clever they are...but they aren't. They just have very bad taste.

somebody call the cops - too grotesque for words

melissa said...

OK I missed the girl, the mice and the dildos.
Apart from THEM it looks like the ladies' waiting room at delhi station etc etc etc...!

I saw an opera in Stuttgart once where there was a crucified Jesus in a box at the bottom of the stage throughout the performance. It was as weird as this without the undertones of kidnapping.

sherri said...

lady incubator comment killed me. glass dildos - two words that should never be in the same sentence. even the cat is saying wtf?

Sarah (La Maison Boheme) said...

Actually, if you took the dead body out of the glass box and removed the palm trees, I'd be into it.

Is this a cautionary tale for Peta Supporters? Because all that's missing from that room is a deers head. Or maybe a stuffed bear..

well on a more positive note, i like the stool next to the rat-eaten girl's head.
