Calypso for Target images released

 Pillows, $24.99 each.

When the Calypso for Target collabo was announced earlier this year, my arrhythmic heart skipped more than a couple of beats.  I had hoped this would be the high-low marriage that Target didn't dumb down.  But then today the collection images were released, and I realized Tar-zhay is that date who promises you filet mignon as he pulls up to the McDonald's drive-thru.

The line includes women's (uh, juniors) and girls' clothing and shoes, jewelry and bags, and some lackluster home items.  All of the dinnerware and serving pieces are melamine.  There are two Moroccan-ish poufs and some tea glass candle holders in a rainbow of JCPenney's teen department hues.  Dude, I am so disappointed.

For the entire look book, click here.

Serving Tray in Turquoise or Coral, $12.99.

Elephant Teapot in Turquoise or Coral, $12.99.

 Dinnerware, $3.49-$3.99 each.

Two-tier Tray in Turquoise or Coral, $19.99.

 Candle holders, $7.99-$29.99.

 Embroidered Canvas Tote, $16.99.

Dress, $16.99.
Tunic, $14.99.

Yeah. Not. Good.

A shame. They look good on screen, but like everything, it is the materials that maketh the product. And quality is something that you can only see in real life ~ to touch, to see, to handle.

My thoughts exactly -- as soon as I read "melanine" I wrote the whole collection off.
I don't need poolside dishes....or baby china.
The tot clothes are cute enough though -- there's hope for the Pea, at least.

I like the elephant teapot, but I swears up and down J.Adler did one a few years ago. Side note: based on the commercials for this line, I assumed it was going to be sucky and underwhelming.

I'd like to see the serving tray in person, I sort of like it.

Bummerville. I go into Target to check out the designery stuff with an attitude of "maybe this time it'll be different!" but 99.9% of the time I leave empty-handed.

Let me rephrase: I leave with bags full of other "things I need," just not any of the products that got me in there in the first place. Which is maybe OK for Target's bottom line.

PS: Raina, did you see this collab coming soon?

WHAAAAAAATHEEEEEEEFUUUUUUUCK.
honestly?! this is like getting promised sex with robert pattinson and getting robert patrick instead. (you remember, the cop from terminator? anyway.)
GRRR. the clothes look so cheap! :( I could easily go to...say..target RIGHT NOW and get something just as cheap. it all looks like something from some awful catalog. and what IS it with melamine? does anyone buy that stuff for their home and not to picnic?! to say i'm miffed is putting it lightly. what a pisser. and of course i made such a big deal about it on the blog. oy. will i ever learn?
(still getting that gd pouf, tho.)
thanks for the scoop, Cox.

Molly Marler - Dude, I feel your pain.

P.S. I bought two pleather poufs from T-jay last year and used them outside. They're holding up remarkably well.

The candle holders are cool (the metal ones) and I know you agree. But everything else is disappointing for surezies.

Ok maybe they're a little tin-foil ish..

I'm getting two poufs - maybe the metal candle holders and cosmetics bags - every thing else I'll in need to check out it person- I heard the fabrics for the clothing is actually nice - we'll see on May 1
(I don't care for any melanine stuff - even through it can look cool)

for a company that donates *against* marriage equality and *for* michelle bachmann, i am not surprised.

crap in, crap out.

Actually I've heard that the material they use for the clothing is all 100% natural, including 100% cotton, and one of the pink caftan dresses is made of silk...sounds like pretty good quality to me
