Get outta the shot!

I get that Mario Testino is a top-of-his-game fashion photographer, but do I really want to see supermodel/socialite Nadia Vodianova prancing around his Hollywood Hills house in those dumb Prada Thunderbird heels and a wretched haircut? Short answer: NO!

I want to enjoy spank-worthy homes like Testino's in all of their boho chalky-white-walled splendor without people mucking up the glory shots of "naïf seventeenth- and eighteenth-century portraits of los arcángeles peering down on roomscapes crowded with colonial silver plates, the huacos artifacts of the Incas, and a jostle of imposing dark Spanish-inspired furniture and sleek mid-century design statements." (Gawd, Hamish Bowles can write some seriously hot interiors porn.) I want to imagine myself living there and rolling around on the "sheep-colored carpets latticed with giant black lozenges from the Middle Atlas." Or lounging poolside on chaises decorated with ruby red embroidered "[c]ushions found in Ibiza."

Let's keep the blank-eyed Balenciaga-ed former billionaire's wife off the staircase and in the fashion spreads where she belongs. Now my alternate reality requires me to tackle a stack of World of Interiors whilst reclining on that fireside banquette...

Word.

So glad you are back. I've missed good commentary on interior design, mixed with a heaping dose of snark.

Absolutely!

When I'm reading a decorating magazine, I don't want to see the homeowner lounging on the sofa or posing on the coffee table, and I especially don't want to see her kids jumping on the bed or rollerblading across the marble foyer.

I buy decorating magazines for decorating and other magazines for other stuff. And never the twain should meet.

HA! I saw these and thought the exact same thing. She is distracting me from the good stuff.

So glad to see you are back, Raina!

Agree. Or at least if she has to be there can she just be wearing a white t-shirt and some jeans?

Yes! She is so distracting and not in a good way. A moving tapestry...

P.S Raina, your blog kept coming up as 'invite only' in my Blogger/reader for a while. Not sure what happened but mighty glad to be here again.

Paula - I took the blog dark for awhile to deal with some family stuff. So glad to see you back, too!
