Your thoughts please

The new Saguaro Palm Springs boutique hotel (formerly a Holiday Inn).

They've done a great job erasing all the Holiday Inn bland ugliness of appealing to the lowest common denominator and replaced it with an exercise in questionable color choices. Sadly, I have the sinking feeling that in 2 years time, this look will be incredibly trendy.

Looks like Pantone have branched out into holiday accommodation...perhaps not the resort of choice when nursing a hangover...

Good Lord, I just saw "the Lorax" with my seven year old... this is exactly the same color palette!

Yikes. If I saw these room pics on their website, I wouldn't book a room at their 'boutique' hotel.

my husband has a saying that you might find apposite:

"you can't polish a turd"

Like the colour blocking on the exterior. Makes me think of the hotel we stayed at in Bermuda.

But Please Please Please don't make me stay in other of these rooms.

the outside is 'cleaned-up Rio Favela' (fantastic); the inside is Mexico City Ikea. Not as successful.

I like it. The thing about hotel design is that it's fun to flirt with - but you don't want to live there. As a Canadian I think this would be a wonderful antidote to a cold grey winter.

Perhaps you have to have a Nick Jr addiction to fully appreciate those rooms.

Or take ecstasy.

BTW, I've missed your um, voice. Read you calling some guy a dickweed over at Tulp's and I had to come see what you'd been doing.

So, HI!

Mad Woman - When in doubt, I go for "elegance."

Nothing about this says "calm" or "restful" or "spa". In fact, it mostly says "schizophrenic", which is not what one looks for in a vacation.

I find this oddly refreshing.
We stayed in a more contemporary hotel in Cancun this time 'round and I found the angles and brights and clean lines liberating somehow.
And of course this sure beats a corporate-dictated Holiday Inn setup anyday -- shades of greige, dark green and chippy faux wood finish get me down.

What are they going to call this new style -- Eisenhower On Acid?

Say what you will about the Fifties, at least they knew where they were.

First I off I love that you are blogging again.

Secondly the same hotel fits rather nicely in the Scottsdale area (especially because we actually do have saguaro cacti..as opposed to not having any in Palm Springs;-). We stayed at the Saguaro here locally when they first opened in Oct last year. I'll admit the style isn't for everyone but I LOVED it. i posted photos over here if you want to take a looksy:

Just had to pop back in to guffaw over the nail-on-the-head brilliance of Tenderleaf's observation above!

Dig. And, I'm for anything that screams 60s beach, and black lights work better on colors, right?
