What is your biggest home regret?

Today, Trulia released results from a survey of homeowners and renters asking their biggest home regret. Topping the list is wishing they'd bought a larger house. Number two is regretting they hadn't invested more in renovations. Also high on the list is not buying or renting a home closer to work.

Dumplings, what is your biggest home regret?

No regrets! We bought a city pad and a beach house, both super crappy! We rent them out and rent our current family home.... And count the days till the kids leave so we can flit in between our ideal locations. X

Not putting in that extra bathroom before we had kids. Now they bleed us dry so we never seem to have the extra money to do it.

putting owning a large home before other things like travel and living on one income. We have figured out that for us a smaller home with more financial flexibility is the sweet spot.

I would also agree that majority of people do not invest enough in their renos/updates on new homes. I can see this as one of major regrets.

The black granite counter top in my bathroom. Looks handsome---if cleaned 20 times a day.

Getting a one-garage home! The only garage we had was used to store tools and junk. We live in Illinois, so when it's winter, our car gets crazy cold inside.

Biggest regret is that we didn't scrape or cover the textured ceilings in the house before we moved all of our crap in. Nothing says 1972 like popcorn ceilings. Coming back later to read the other comments to find out if I should have regretted other things too.

We probably shouldn't have bought the house we bought. Its more than we need, and it needs more than we can give it right now, so we're sort of stuck.

Past that, I shouldn't have had the floors stained black. They're really pretty when they're clean, but with dogs they're never clean.

Buying a house that had a long driveway with a northern exposure - it was an ice slick all winter long. (But the other side of the house got gorgeous light, so.)

I have absolutely no regrets! I love my house with all of my heart. It's just perfect and makes me incredibly happy.

I love my house, but we never use the formals which are both good size rooms. That kind of bothers me sometimes.

Not budgeting enough for the renovations to all of the ugly builder grade stuff. Somehow custom drapes and Brno chairs were more important at the time.

Buying it with the alcoholic. He drank it twice.

Thanks to the bad economy I was able to buy it, 3rd time, and get the divorce !!!!!!!!!!!!!

So far my only regret with this house is the crotchety old woman and her live-in bachelor son who both live next door...they just love to hate

the house next to ours was a teardown - as they are called. it was so cheap, but way too much for us 10 years ago. so we didnt buy it - we culd have doubled our lot size, added on to our house, added a pool. instead a builder bought it for himself, built this huge contemporary monstrosity for himself. a huge brown box. he only stayed for a few years, but we have to look at it for life. i mentioned it to my father a few years ago and he was furious that we didn't ask him for the money. yeah, now you tell us. ugh. ugh. ugh. our biggest mistake ever.

I don't think I have a regret in this house.. It is pretty much our dream, but I would like a more modern vibe with more windows and a little Frank Lloyd Wright-ish architecture! picky, aint I?

Wish I'd been more patient in finding a renovation contractor. The one I got was worse than crappy.

No regrets. if i'd have settled on the house I originally wanted and didn't back out because of some seller issues, i'd never have found my wee 110-year old farm house in a great neighbourhood, and with just enough space.

A short commute to work is key!

My greatest regret? That I spent more on the renovations than I could ever hope to recoup, and I'm not even finished yet!

That I jumped on the granite bandwagon 10 years ago.....cause it was $$$ and now I want to set it on fire but my husband would burn me first....
