New IKEA kitchen system launching 2/2

On February 2nd, IKEA will launch SEKTION, its first new kitchen concept in over 20 years. The new series will be more modular and allow for even greater design flexibility with new cabinet heights and depths and more interior options.

The new system was rolled out last spring in Scandinavia under the name METOD. Cabinet finishes and door styles changed little but were renamed. "There will also be two price brackets, mostly affecting interior fittings, to offer a more economical option for customers without having to compromise on design," explained IKEA spokeswoman Alice Carroll.

The new system is not compatible with the old AKURUM series, but IKEA will be honoring all existing warranties and stock replacements parts until October 1st or while supplies last.

Please tell me how the hell you get to the shelves at the top in the first image? I don't get it.

A friend of mine and I were just talking about this last night. Our local IKEA had him help do their store cabinet installation, and they offered him a job as a contractor to install them in folks' homes. He used to run a custom cabinet design shop here locally, but the economy did him in, IKEA would be lucky to have him, as would anyone contracting him as an installer. He said the line was pretty nice, I'm anxious to see it in person.

And hilarious about the tall comment.

I would consider Ikea for cabinets. I love the new heights and depths addition. The old ones were too limiting. I can't believe they waited 20 years?

Pigtown stole my comment. But seriously, wtf with the NBA-only kitchen shelves?
