If you wore it the first time

West Elm Chevron wall tapestry, $299.

Have you heard the old fashion axiom if you wore it the first time you shouldn't wear it again? Meaning if you rocked a trend when it first rolled around, your granny ass shouldn't be squeezing into this spring's bell bottom jeans.

Does the same hold true with decorating? While I adore the look of my burl root table, I could not would not hang a giant macrame potholder in my home. The walls of my 1970s childhood were littered with woven wall hangings, and they were always covered with a thick layer of dust and cobwebs.

Do you have a design trend from your youth that you won't revisit on the grounds of "once but never again"?

I think my mom has one of those. It came from the Monument Valley gift shop ca. 1972.

Orange and green together. It just reminds me of early bedtimes and gives me a kool aid headache.

Shag carpet and ruffles. Okay maybe ruffles but definitely not shag carpet. Or tube tops.
