well I suppose there was a generation who thought doilies under the home telephone was a terrible thing too so I shall not be a curmudgeon today...

UGH I can't believe this.
Still, would come in handy for trying to control the teenagers at the dinner table, they wouldn't be able to read their phone by holding it just under the table while pretending that they are not doing that.

My first reaction was absolutely not. But upon thinking things over, maybe it is a good idea. Everyone put your phone away during dinner, let's focus on who's at the table.

That's absolutely ridiculous. People are too addicted to their phones. Let it go already.

Confused as to the point of this. Is it to keep the phone close so that you can use it while you eat? In that case, this is stupid because you have to remove the phone from the pocket in order to do that. Is it to prevent phone use at the table? In that case, this is stupid because the phone is right there next to your plate. Is it to keep food from getting on your phone? In that case this is stupid because you shouldn't have your phone at the table anyway. So basically, this is just stupid.

We were out to dinner the other night and a table of four was across from us. Everyone at the table was on their phones. Two parents and two teens. What's the point? Just order something in and eat in your own rooms. It really was sad.
